    It is unfortunate that your wife is resolved to have a top loader.
    Otherwise I would say that our VC Encore 2500 cat stove (built/installed Sept 2008) was replaced by the Woodstock IS Oct 2014. Your Defiant is a different era than our Encore was, sure, so I can't say how the IS was a big leap towards reliability, trustworthiness, efficiency, cost savings (parts), controllability, easy repair, great service and easy-to-use. Wood stove tech has improved since 2000 and yes I am prejudiced about VC due to their past and our Encore experience.
