Well, when can you expect it?

What color combination will it be?

And it looks like they are specifically shooting for longer burn times with this new hybrid. In my reply to Tom this afternoon, I also asked him:

    His response (my emphasis added),

Tom will be bringing my stove to the DC Challenge on November 16th:

I'm going to attend it also and will be bringing the stove home from there to save them shipping costs.

We went with Metallic Blue on the stove with light blue soapstone behind the fluer de lis design on the sides/legs.

Right where I want to be.
So, we have to wait another month.:popcorn:
At least you still have the Fireview.
Can't wait to see your new stove, Brian.
You'll take pics at the challenge....right?

Interesting. This means that some of the info I got on Friday probably is not accurate.

Tom just got back from Canada so I assume he based what he told me on the test results there.

If the Progress has a 2.8 cu ft firebox, Heat Output btu/hr of 12,538 - 73,171 and they told you a 12-14 hour burn time, it will be interesting to see the Union/Steal Hybrid burn time with a 3.2 cu ft firebox and Heat Output btu/hr of 13,241 to 60,145.

Basic math says it should have 25% longer burns at least, right?

Talked to Ron today at Woodstock... they're thinking spring or early summer for the release to the public on the Union... They want to collect out in the field data from all the Beta tester's , having the stove installed in different chimney configurations, according to who gets a stove.. Well at least they are doing their homework so once released, any bugs will have been taken care off... no one likes a stove bug:drool:

Yes, I think Ron is correct and this is good.

Never noticed how LOW the BK test results came in at by the EPA, all under 40k btu's.

Yeah, that doesn't make sense. The biggest BK has a huge firebox (>4 cu ft) but maybe it's optimized for ultra long burns instead of high BTU output. Tom from Woodstock said the Progress Hybrid had the highest BTU output ever recorded in EPA tests.

The great news is, since getting my PH updated (fixed leak/smoke smell), it's starting to burn on the low end like a BK! I'm getting slower and longer low end burns now. Was probably leaking air in as well as smoke out.

If the new Union thingy burns as good as the PH, your going to be in luck! And Woodstock is going to sell a hell of a lot of them!

Brian, I think you hit the nail right on the head. Size does matter, but the intent of the design engineers also plays a big part in the performance factors. BK's put a premium on long burn times.

The EPA numbers look like the BK's are not very big heaters, just long burners? So if you open them up to throw some descent heat, your burning dirty?

No. Why would you think that? Your burn times would shorten. But, even then, most with the King are getting 12-16 hours when running hard.

The Princess is in the 10-12 hour range, I think.

Just thinking that they are showing them clean burning at under 40k btu..that not being a big number for heat output.... Maybe I'm looking at it all wrong...

We had a lengthy debate about the EPA numbers previously when the Progress got tested. Take the Union numbers with a grain of salt and only apply them and compare them to how the Progress works.

There was a lot of questionable info. Odd numbers in terms of what stoves heated and were tested at. The 30 supposedly was tested at lower BTU numbers than some stoves that were at sub 2 cu ft. The Hearthstone stove numbers were just weird (Heritage rated at higher numbers than the Mansfield). Some Jotul stoves were tested at weird numbers, as well. A US Stove (or was it a Drolet) that was the same size as the 30 put out nearly 3x the BTU numbers.
