I’m only a week into burning the fireview and I’ve mostly only burnt ash. For the size the fireview puts out the heat but I don’t think I’ll get 12-13 hour burns out of it. It’s pretty much like how Woodstock advertises them. I know when the temps drop to single digits I’ll be using the ideal steel.
Just a magnet, I put one on the single wall pipe and also in the stove top just above the cat. I engage the cat anywhere between 200 and 250'F STT. I leave the draft wide open for maybe 5 mins, sometimes even less, depending on how charred the wood is, then damp the draft down to 1. Like everyone that has one of these I couldn't be happier with it. It's get's "wows!" from all our friends who visit, as it is such a classic design. Dropped my wood consumption from 4+ ~ 5 cord a year down to a bit over 3, and the oil man just scratches his head and wonders how i do it.
I have a Woodstock AS in the basement family room. Down in the low teens here the last couple days so that stove is also cruising along. I have to tend and fill the Fv 3 times a day. First thing in the AM, late afternoon, and then before we go to bed. But the AS downstairs, only twice a day. Even though it isn't that much bigger than the Fv, it's over square box seems to fit a few more splits.
I do not have the IS but can tell you without a doubt that the IS will give you much more heat than the Fireview. Simply put, it is larger. But with the same amount of wood it would probably very close. I'd probably still give the edge to the IS; it is a hybrid so will gain a bunch with that.
You might not get 12 to 13 hour burns at the heat you want, but I'll sometime get up in the AM, and the stove is down to coals from 7 or 8 hours ago, and read the paper, surf the net, waste an hour on Facebook, etc etc.. and 11:00AM I'll push the ash forward, load the stove, open it up and voila.. good for the afternoon till after supper. In the mean time the warmth from the soapstone is enough some days when were in the mid high 30s, so no need to rush to get the burn going again, unless of course you just want to.
Well, I installed it temporarily because I had a major remodel planned. I pulled it in the spring and it sold very easily. I’m always buying and selling stoves, I have access to parts, equipment,etc.. so it’s not a big deal and I enjoy it. My intention was to give it to my dad to replace his VC when I was done with it, but he didn’t want the hassle of learning a new stove...
I picked this Lopi up for $100. Weve burned it for 2 years. There’s great deals out there on used stoves if keep your eye out and know how to refurbish them.
And with the new epa bull I expect there will also be some big time deals on new stoves before the winter is out.
We’ve sold almost all of the display stoves off already, 20-30% off. I think we had about 30 on display.
I’m just an installer, but it keeps me paid! We actually sell that many stoves every season, but people are talking advantage of the savings on the displays rather than ordering one. It’s a busy year!
Awesome! I'm glad you found it a good home. More power too you for bringing back some of the older models that may still have years of useful service in them.
