Ain't no dealer HB. There is a way to get to anyone, anywhere, at any level......even the Pope. It is the old Six Degrees of Separation #1. And #2 is always start at the top of any organization ( except for those of us former mil where rank is usually impenetrable beyond a single level up ). So, who do you need to contact ?The contract is in the mail HB with the bill. Those "low ranking consumers" ( me ) are what makes this system run.
Since 2001, I have been burning with an Earth Stove bv4000c and have been very satisfied. Every 6-7 years, I replace the cat and other than I do need to replace the door gasket, it has performed beyond my expectations. The steel cat is now on its second season and seems to work better than the ceramic, but time will tell. I think about replacing the stove from time to time, but I just can’t justify it.
I recently got my SIL a PE Alderlea T5. It's simpler than a Jotul. The reason Woodstock appears to you to be running behind BK is that the BK is about to be lapped.
Buck 80 as an insert, 5 years on now. Good, basic cat unit. It heats our place just fine with good burn times. When it comes time to upgrade I'll put out the dough for BK or Woodstock.
This was my first winter running two new stoves. The one in the basement is a Blaze King Ultra. Picked it up spring 2019. Absolutely love it! Cut my firewood consumption by more than half from the previous year. Burned almost only spruce and was still happy with my burn times. In August 2019 we installed a Pacific Energy Super 27 that we picked up used of Kijiji. This was put in the main floor living room. Love this stove as well! I feel very spoiled to have them both!
The ESW fan club meets here too! I have an NC-30, very pleased with it, it owes me nothing. Though I am wondering what's coming out to replace it, or will it be recertified for 2020?
My main heater is a Woodstock Progress Hybrid. My basement has a Pacific Energy T6 that I will run if I need supplemental heat. If I could justify the money I would have a Woodstock in the basement too. I have had good luck with other brands but Woodstock has earned my loyalty.
The PH or IS are that much better than a T6 that you would spend the money to upgrade it? I thought people liked the T6.
No, that’s why I can’t justify the money. I would like an ash pan and clean glass on the basement stove. It isn’t worth the money since we don’t use the basement that much. The T6 has served us well.
Good thread. I had an AS in my house for a year, decided it wasn't for me modified it for my trapping shed. Put a bk princess I got for free in my garage. Now my wife wants the papa bear out of the house, and am now looking for a new non cat stove. My wife likes the enameled Harmans, but don't know jack about them. I don't need a EPA stove at all here, but really liked the way the AS heated, and customer service was phenomenal. My last grandmother died a month ago, and she really liked the jotul she had. She found it easy, and used it till she was 97. I'll be watching this one. I dont want to put the papa bear in my shop, because I need one I can abuse without guilt, so the earth stove remains.
I just dont like my fire going out during burn season in my house. My outbuildings and sauna, yes. The cat needs maintenance from time to time, and gaskets needed replaced 5 months into a 9 to 10 month burn season. Just too much maintenance for me personally. I ended up building and welding two cams for the door, which really helped. Beautiful stove, unrivaled customer service. Not knocking them at all. If I was still in warmer climes with back up heat, or lived in a highly regulated state? No problem. I did burn only about 4.5 cord of wood, but we have so much beetle kill here, that wood is a non issue. And saving 3 cords of wood isnt a big deal to me. All soft wood around here. I really liked the large glass.
I'm wrapping up my third year burning, and so far, Ive only replaced the ash pan gasket a few months ago. I need to replace all the others after this season though. Surprised you had a failure after five months. As far as cat maintenance, I pop min out just before a reload, let it cool on the hearth for 15ish minutes, then brush it or give it a quick vinegar spray and rinse.
Sounds like a a good routine for you. The hardware store borrows my ash vacuum and does the very same thing on their king.
We had a huge HearthGlow in the basement which was a wood hog! It would hardly hold a fire beyond 4 hrs. Upstairs we had a Regency f1100 which was to small. The Blaze King and pacific energy were great upgrades.
