This past fall both of our labradors got mange. From what we can best figure, it was from Badger rolling in poo in the yard, presumably fox poo. I saw a mangy fox weeks before as well. I had 2x the vet bills. Not fun. They sure are cute little critters though. Really just small wild dogs.
I am certainly glad the dog didn't get rabies but sorry to hear it got mange. I also glad your daughter didn't get hurt.
Don't let looks fool you, they are mean little rascals that go crazy with the taste of blood and will kill a whole flock of chickens in a blood thirsty kill fest.
Ermine is what the small ones are, but those have black tips on the tails. Now this one is bigger. I think it's a white mink. They are sometimes albino, and naturally occurring, but I have a feeling this is an escapee from a fur farm, bred to be white. Cute little buggers, but yeah, nasty as all get out. That's the whole weasel family, cute but nasty, except the wolverine, that is not cute. Just plain mean. Right The Wood Wolverine
I think theree's two kinds of weasels in N.America. ( besides the obvious politicians, ha-ha ) One bigger than the other. And they both may or may not have white winter coats.
And it isn't restricted to fox. We had three family pets (other peoples dogs) kill a bunch of chickens in the 60's. They are pack animals when you get right down to it.
Very interesting critters. I've watched a bunch of documentaries on them. Steve Kroschel thinks they're cute...
I see lots of foxes but this guy was happy to sit for some pics on the side of a northern Ontario road last fall.
