Around here and Im guessing elsewhere that will get you a really nice fine if caught since most of them peckers are protected.
Although I have no issues with hunting for food and really against trophy hunting, personally I shoot things with a camera, but this little birdie is pizzing me off. Trying whatever "save the little birdie" methods I can.
Had one years ago knocking holes in cedar trim. Hollow sound kept it coming back , after a few pretty big holes in the house, Was time for more aggressive action. Glad we are allowed to protect our homes & property here. Love woodpeckers, just not the ones that eat my home
There are "URBAN" and "RURAL" ways and means to control issues. Most of them peckers are probaby protected by "Highly Educated Pecker Heads if you get my drift.
The rural way would be to keep ones mouth shut about how they got rid of the troublesome critter, which is just the opposite of of blabbering to the world on the interwebby. Sort of like the chicken keepers bragging about how to take care of hawks on a forum with several thousand members some of whom are federal wildlife officers.
I get your drift I am in a very rural area with a federal fish and game officer as a neighbor he politely informed me of what the consequences of messing with the peckers would be. He also made some sarcastic remarks about the stupidity of some laws. I just figured Id let the op know in case he decided to go the rural route.
Maybe he is the same one that pecks on my metal mud room roof. I swear he does it to pizz me off cuz when I open the door he flies off.
I would be concerned that feeders would attract more and be just the opposite. Something to consider.
A fat well fed woody might stop some of the noise but if your particular bird is lovesick you have another issue entirely.
