You can get heating degree units for last year. Then compare same for this year. That will tell you true difference in house improvements with amount of heat used..
Yes, that's on our utility bill. I'll need to look it up after we get some weather here. Heck, I bet all the work made our ac unit more efficient too. Although this summer want anywhere as warm or as extended as it was last summer.
Ok, done for now with the stacking. That's 4 rows deep. Top cover is on. I'll measure it again as I know it's taller now. When it was 5' tall, each row was exactly .5 cord. So this is over 2 cords. I threw a lot of the uglies on top of the last row, about the last foot or so because I didn't want to run down to get another load from the ash pile. Plus I figured that the shorts and uglies will get burnt up starting this Friday. I'll replenish the centers with more wood as I use it, leaving the cribbed corners to easily stack new pieces in between. I've done it like this for a few years now, and it works great.
I'll be able to get some fire wood work done on Saturday, possibly tomorrow night. I was going to do some splitting tonight, but I had to get water pressure back in the house. So that took precedent. I think I might have enough wood for next year already sitting on the pile of ash, some apple I split about 1.5 yrs ago, some honey locust that a resplit read 24% today, plus a little bit of silver maple. Oh yeah, there's a couple cords of box elder that I need to haul and split that is at my buddy's house that I cut last winter. Even though it's in the round now, I wouldn't be shocked if it might be in the low twenty percent range as it is, since it was dead standing and it's BE so it dries quickly. Plus there's at least a couple more cords of good sized BE to cut down at that spot. Now if my neighbor comes up with the ash and birch that he said he'd bring, plus the couple of ash trees I'll cut at my house due to eab, I'll be easily 3 years ahead.
