Hello all you wood burners! Air regulators are working on a new test method for wood heaters using cord wood. Many assumptions about how wood stove owners use their stoves are being made.

Industry lacks data on how wood stove users operate, maintain and install their wood stoves & inserts as well as manage the wood they burn.

Please click on this survey link and take the industry survey. You might win one of five $100.00 Amazon gift cards as well.

In advance, thank you to the owner of this site for permitting industry this opportunity.

BKVP Filled out for you, really appreciate you membership and great posts.
I think this group might skew results, best advice section should include
    Burn dry wood!

Agreed! I chose moisture meter because that was as close to burn dry wood as I could get. Obviously you don’t have to have a moisture meter if you dry firewood per the guidelines found on this site though.

The flue section of questions need needs refinement, rather obvious that who ever wrote this up is unfamiliar with flues and solid fuel appliances.

Kinda understandable since only a couple percent of the population heat full time with wood.

Asking if you dry your wood 6 months is another example.
(I checked the 3+ years box, but I'm pretty sure I'm in a very small minority for those drying times.)

I would venture that a group such as us will skew the results because we have so much more wood on hand then the average user. Some of the questions left me wanting other choices, but I filled it out the best I could. It was interesting that they asked about the size and shape of the wood.

A lot of the "drying" answers come down to region.
Many only have soft woods/pine and their drying times are 1/4 of oak's drying time in humid Pa climate.

Agreed! And CSS for 3 years + pretty much guarantees that, even with hardwood in humid areas. (Thanks Backwoods Savage :D)
Yeah, and the choices had some large gaps I thought!
It is obvious that whoever made the survey is not really familiar with wood heating...

Done. I worry that "shoulder season" vs "heating season" is a highly variable concept as well. My whole burn season is like the shoulder season for you eastern folks.

Also, the time spent on high or medium burn rate. We all spend some time there during startup but I think they are trying to quantify how many people utilize the high burn rates because they need the heat.

Surveys are always "rigged" by the questions and even the audience being surveyed. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes not.

Keep in mind this site has far more "viewers" and members. If only members of the forums were to respond, it could "skew" the results.

This survey is being hosted on multiple internet sites in order to maximize number of responses...providing more data.

but to get true data the questions must be precise in there nature or things become off center again. I agree the drying time is too broad in its nature. shoulder season - should be modified by region and named month/s for a more accurate answer. In some cases equipment is purchased mfg direct. I do not remember that as an option . Yes, any survey can be worded to get the desired results, and of course those responses that do not agree are sometimes conveniently lost.

I am told the zip code/provincial code will allow for a sort by region......
