    Yeah, nothing good happens to lubricants over time...even if unused

    I read all kinds of different opinions on splitter fluid but:smoke:
    Fluids do breakdown, under compression, brake fluid, transmission fluid, gear oil, engine oil, you name it,, add in contaminants, from metal particles and seal deterioration Etc.
    Use your own judgement:)

    I have a new filter already so I will probably change the fluid out.....I want that splitter to last till the Good Lord calls me home.

    Yeah I'm getting close to time to do mine too...think I bought it in '12. The oil still looks pretty clean...just starting to get a dark amber color to it...I'm sure a $25 bucket of fresh RKO hydraulic oil would do it good long term...

    Makes no sense to me to remove half of the old fluid, Purge the whole system, that's my opinion.
    That's why the brake fill system in the factory has a purge button, it's like taking a laxative, clean that chit out :D:fart:
