Yeah, always an evolution with making firewood. I've been evolving too in storage and handling. Less handling of big rounds the better.

How's the back feeling these days?

I’ll say better. I’ve read a lot about mind-body connection with chronic pain and so far it has helped

What about utilizing the solar kiln wrap to help dry out that oak?

All my wood is from this summer. Split small and stack in the su. I realize days are getting shorter this late into summer but 12 months out smaller split oak should be fine

Well I may be in the minority and may get hammered for saying this, but I would forget the oak and spend the time hoarding faster drying wood you need. Or just take a little of the oak (split it small) but still concentrate my efforts on wood that will be ready when you need it.

I love burning oak as much as the next hoarder, but unless it's an easy score and Im on the 3 year plan (I am), I'll pass. I just moved the front face cord of an oak stack to the shed to burn this year. It has been stacked top covered for 3.5 years in a good location. I re-split a few to test MC. Most were 19-17%. Burnable, but I thought the average MC would be lower. Haven't checked any splits from the middle of the stack yet. I moved on to the BL next to it.

    nope, I’d agree too.

my plan is to have it for the Minnesota cold snaps. Those bitter days under the donut where btu content matters

You folks get some brutal cold there. Here in Southern NE we seldom get a cold snap (single digits) for a few days. Big news when it does. Most of my customers are casual burners so dry wood is key for them. The ones with stoves/inserts will get the better btu stuff. My BL and hickory get sold at a premium.
