Great that you have the inventory to refill them. Kinda jealous of you guys that can take and store log lengths like that with me being pot luck for scores.
To say that sales were brisk at the roadside stand in the summer and early fall would be an understatement. I literally couldn't keep up. I processed 13 cords last year and sold everything that was dry. It really dropped off about 7 weeks ago. I've been supplementing with a delivery each week for the last 4 weeks with another scheduled this weekend. There is a LOT of wood available in my market. My deliveries are for people willing to pay for quality wood. I'll still be selling when everyone else runs out.
I'm still thinking about that. Have some ideas on how or what to change. I'd like to transition away from bulk but that has become my bread and butter.
That's where I think many sellers get it wrong. There is no need to compete with the bottom dwellers. They usually don't sell seasoned wood, they often short their customers, and they don't last long. Many people get tired of being screwed over and will pay top dollar so they don't have it happen to them again. You can also buy out your competition and resell it for your price.
Yep, it seems like it was a couple weeks ago... We have some inventory, got an oak top to clean up. That the only score we have lined up. I don't think we have enough to fill all the sheds and totes right now.
How many cuft of firewood can you fit inside the totes? Doesn't look like a full 43 cuft, but have never used or measured one. I bring two step ladders for holding down my tarp when towing my trailer when wet. One across the front and the other in back; both strapped down tight. Keeps the tarp from flapping. Yours is either for keeping your tote in place or you have some high stacking to do. I have stacked firewood for customers with shelves on both sides of their fireplaces.
We have 2 sizes 330 gal and 275 gal. They hold .33 cord and .3 cord stacked even with top. We put straps on to make sure splits don't fall out. Ladder is so my short wife can get on the truck...
When I deliver I always take a (shorter) stepladder to get in the truck myself. I'm 5'10" but my knees appreciate the ladder!
Yep, I tell her that's the raise she's been looking for... I make sure she isn't holding a split at the time I tell her...
