Admittedly, the spools today were a knee jerk reaction. Tomorrow’s raid will be premeditated

24 New Park Drive, Berlin. Right on the Merritt Parkway side of the Berlin Turnpike. It’s that GoNetSpeed internet company that’s installing cheap internet access all over the state. Dozens and dozens of empty spools that they’re begging people to take. Otherwise it’s all going in a dumpster in the next week or two. As far as what I’m going to do with them... the big one I’m going to shorten and make a rustic table from (wife’s idea) The kids have been playing with the smaller ones but eventually I’ll dismantle them and use the lumber for something (likely another wood shed)

Plenty of wood to be had in the large spool. It’ll be good for something....

Put an umbrella in the center hole and you have a patio table.

I sided part of my woodshed with a salvaged redwood hot tub that had similar curves. Built in 1997 and still solid.

I've been looking for a large spool like that to put near the fire pit. The wife is even on board so I need to hoard!

You should pick up a bunch of those big reels. With some modifications you could make a firewood trommel to clean your firewood for those fussy customers ;)

Ive thought of something similar. A mesh drum that rotates with an electric motor.

Jim Ignatowski (Taxi - 1970’s TV) used those spools as a nutcracker

Just went through the local tree dump looking for…… well, just looking  and ended up with these 4x4s, ten of them.

As a bonus, another guy stopped to talk with me and offered me a couple standing dead trees for firewood, right along his road and I’m thinking the are elms, told him I wasn’t interested in any cottonwoods.
I told him I would be out to check em out, I need wood for the stove a work.
He’s right around 80 years old and squirrelly as a pet coon but can probably still work circles around me. He’s doing the roof on my boss’s garage right now

Do you know what the normal application is? If it can be used on a roof, membrane is out til 2023 in some big manufacturers, it might be quite valuable. Preface I have no idea what that rubber roll is, just passing on a thought.

Never figured it out specifically. A waterproof/moisture underlayment barrier for engineered flooring is the only thing I can think of. Maybe first generation technology on that front. A moisture barrier underneath with 1/8” foam cushion on top for the floor. I’d guess newer stuff might be fully waterproof but at the same time does it matter? I know any layered basement floor that gets flooded still gets ripped out. Mold between the layers ;)
Not suitable for roofing or covering wood as the foam does absorb water and the plastic isn’t too strong.
I’ll be doing half my moms basement with click flooring. Hope to use some of it under that. No idea what will become of the rest.

buZZsaw BRAD strikes again with his random acts of kindness. He took down an old deck for a customer and generously offered me a bunch of the PT lumber. I ended up with 36 12’ 2x6s! He’s one heck of a guy, I don’t care what jo191145 says about him :p

I uhhh... I dunno yet :D Maybe use some to frame out a woodshed, use the nicer pieces to frame a small deck for my pool.
