    Yes, that's ash. I'll give another vote on cottonwood on the first pics too.

    Could be, that was my first thought. If it's light, then, yeah. You'll know. Oak would be heavy.

    Yep, that new stuff is ash. Cottonwood dries fast, but so does ash. Cottonwood is great for shoulder season, it lights quickly, about 14 mbtu's a cord, while ash is about 20 mbtu's a cord, so about 33% better heat than cottonwood.

    I've cut a lot of this wood this year. I guessed it was poplar but never really knew.

    I'm saying cottonwood as well. Any sass I've cut hasn't had that dark brown of a core on it.

    That bark on yellow poplar and white ash look very much alike so it is hard to tell what you had NBourque

    It's in the poplar family. Same btu's and drying rate as poplar too. :yes:
