Oh wow is that one of those splitting arm things with a big spring. Iv seen one on you tube. They look like fun. Pics please
I'd say sycamore. Getting a glimpse of the bark/cambium shows me it's sycamore and not beech. Beech has a thin, smooth, gray bark on it. Nonetheless, get it ready to burn. Nice set up. Burn on!
Yes will go out and take pics of the splitter i love it its a lil more work than a hydraulic splitter but i dont mind it works great.
Oh ya thats sycamore and id never get sycamore splitting with that thing. Oh im cracking myself up here.
the bottom picture with your thumb on the wood sure looks like beech to me. I've got a ton of that here. The original posted pix are not beech, I don't have anything here that looks like that.
last pic the bark looks like sycamore. I didnt think it split that easily though. Wood itself does resemble beech. I split sycamore once. Smaller round and it was miserably stringy. Maybe T.Jeff Veal can chime in, he has split big sycamore.
Yep, definitely sycamore. Good job splitting it off the sides like that. It is a bear going down the middle. Decent wood, makes alot of ashes.
Yep that sycamore... Splits pretty tough too, if your not using hydraulics. Last sycamore I hand split convinced me I needed to buy a hydraulic splitter....
Sycamores are susceptible to ring shake and your first 2 pics sure looks like it split between the annual rings. Bark looks like sycamore.
Had a lot of Beech lately and that's what it looks like to me, especially looking at the grain and the flaky bark on the pic of the split.
