The building was designed to be able to back a normal pickup to the ledge and unload. Makes for a small step into the bed to load the cart up. Have to lean to pick up half the wood in the bed that is low but just throw it on the cart to restack in the building. Been keeping my eyes open for something cheap tp make a conveyor. This is the 3rd season now for the cart, No problems thus far.
Learned in shop at shop with a stick welder. Rest was just trying. Here are some more for your viewing pleasure,. Thanks for all the kind words guys. Appreciate it. All kidding aside, I'm no expert as there are lots of guys out there better than me at this. You can't stop trying to move up the totem pole though!
Nice stuff Kevin! You got the Mig tuned in nice! Are you using Co2 or a mixutre gas? Some of your weld's also look like fluxcore and gas. Very Pretty!
1st and last weld are TIG which I'm still learning on and have yet to do any aluminum. I'm running mix gas on the MIG, no flux core rod was used anywhere, don't even have a spool of it and never will. I occasionally get those little pools and some spatter. Guys have said I need to adjust my settings but never say how. It really doesn't bother me as I'm more into the integrity, evenness, penetration and look of the weld than the ease of clean up. With anything, I've always taken the approach of being willing to change if it will make a better end result, you never know where something that could help you will come from. Constant learning thing I guess.
Yes, your 1st weld was obviously Tig. Is that polished stainless or was it chrome plated? I don't know what "guys" your speaking about but your "always" going to get a little spatter from a mig, know matter how long or how good you are. I have put down "MILES" of weld bead ship board and tweeked my welder every way possible. Your stuff looks "very" nice, not to worry. Are you welding for a living?
It's polished stainless. I got into using stainless as the chrome these days just doesn't last. For the money you pay for it, it's pretty discouraging. I do my own polishing as well so I can get what I want that way. That is the grill for my truck that is in the avatar. I just copied the original. Once I bent the 1/4" x 2" flat stock on edge, I knew I could make the rest. I do not weld for a living. Started out on a family farming operation and you get plenty of practice welding there. It was stick welding for about the first 7 years then they finally bought a cheap wirefeed. Not much pay but a great place to learn fab skills. I have been running a manual surface grinder at a tooling supply company now for 20 years. If you would have told me in high school that I would be at a job that your total tolerance was .0002 I would have said you were nuts. Now it's the norm and nothing special.
Me too... I've gumballed so many pieces of steel together over the years, I've actually convinced myself I could weld... pfffffffft... riiiiiiiiiight!
Really nice Kevin. When you and WeldrDave are talkin welding... I gotta go to the store for more popcorn...
They did make these into 1942 but they are generally called 1941 1/2 tons. This hard cab was of the last series which they made 274 of.
Well....... This was made from a MTD made Yard Man. Wheels are original paint as they were green and yellow as well.
Sweet! Hey, where can I get some of that metal "grate" making the bottom of the cart? I need a 4' x 4' piece of that stuff.. Been searching for it.
That came original on the cart. Kind of bowed out in spots as it is a little light for what I'm asked it to do. Box tubing kinda of protects it now though. In any event, Metal suppliers normally call it, expanded metal or expanded sheet. Any of your local metal suppliers should have it. Grainger also sells it but shipping will eat you up there. All different grades and sizes so I'd suggest going to see it at the supplier before buying it.
Grainger is the last place I go. They usually have what I'm looking for, but the price is at a PREMIUM!
