I have way bigger fish to fry out here when it comes to insurance than that hahahaha. I'm actually planning to self-insure house and cars in the next five years or so.
It's funny you should mention that; About 5 years ago I had a man in front of my house taking pictures of my curb and sidewalk. I confronted the man and he said he was an "Independant" photographer for Allstate Insurance company and they randomly send him out to take pictures occasionally of policy holders. I had never had a claim and I kinda brushed it off, but I did ask him "Just what" was he taking pictures of? His exact words were, "public hazzards, tree limbs, things that can blow and fly in your yard as well as sidewalks". I said Holy $#!T man, are you serious? he said yup and please let me finish, I'm NOT the Insurance company, I don't make any decisions I just get paid to take pictures. So he went on his way and about 2 weeks later I get a letter in the mail, "from who"??? , Yup, Allstate Insurance and they gave me 90 days to replace my concrete sidewalk in front of my home because there were tree roots that had pushed up the sections and seperated the walk way. They said it was a Sue Hazzard and if I didn't comply in the time frame, they were dropping me! Well, 70 ft x 3ft of old concrete had to be busted up, hauled away, roots from the 2 maple trees I had, had to be cut out and new Cement/Concrete poured. 3K later and I had to call the Insurance company back out to Prove to them there was new Concrete down. I would have went to another Insurance Company but out here on the Coast, many Insurance Companies don't want to touch a home with in "Hurricane radius" and I'm in it. It's bad enough I'm around $3500.00 a year as it is, a new policy would be 5K easy here. My Brother had Prudential for 45 years and for NO reason what so ever, they dropped him like a hot rock after the big coast Storm Sandy, and none of us had any damage.
Home owner’s insurance is a total scam. We’ve had the photographers here too. We’ve had to dial back our stored firewood, because of them. They say my stacked, split wood is a fire hazard. I tell them, “You know how hard it is to set a giant stack of firewood on fire?” They don’t want to hear it. We pay 11,000 dollars a year for home owners insurance, alone. We do live in a fire prone area, but I have to work tons of overtime every year, just to keep my house insured.
