Forecast for 4" - 7" of snow, then it turns cold
Into the teens at night , low to mid 20°s for the daytime highs
Snow may be here till April , Thur & Frid low temps to be in the single digits

 

bogydave, I love the pictures you post. It truly looks beautiful, and I'd love to see it for myself one time. There is simply no way I could handle those long winters! I just mowed my grass on Wednesday and I'm not complaining one bit! Winter is coming for all of us! I'll enjoy it as best I can.

That is the same way I think about Alaska. Just beautiful. I really enjoy the adventures and pictures, the moose hunt, the garden, and of course, the never ending wood stacks!

Single digits seem really cold now! I won't let myself think about the -0 stuff yet.

 

Dave, I went outside to grab a few splits this morning w/o a jacket, and it felt really cold. It was 30.
I routinely do the same thing in 10 degree weather or less.
Guess I haven't acclimated yet.

The last snow fall shut down the trail in & out for me.
I'd need to chain up to pull the loaded trailer out & have breaking on a couple of the down hill parts.
Not have, nor want chains for the PU.

Was lucky this year to have a later beginning of winter,
allowed me to get the wood out & home, later than the norm.
Better lucky than good

 

I never really get used to the cold
When working & generating heat, better to be a little cool than to sweat,
staying dry is key to staying warm.

I use layers so I can shed them as needed,
wicking type under layers, & I like the polar fleece outer layer stuff.

Now I'm looking forward to Oct 2016 & cutting the "first round" for the 19/20 burn season.

Funny how some of us really enjoy doing this type of work.
IMO, I think I'm nuts

 

We all may be a little nuts but what the heck.....I got mine all split and couldn't go a week till I had to go cut some more. My wife has given up on thinking I'm nuts, she's sure of it. But you are right you have to enjoy it.

 

Yea, if I was setup to get into the area in winter
I'd be tempted to go.
But
Under 8 hours of daylight now & will soon be under 7, cold , hard on equipment, snow & ice are slippery.............

Enough excuses for now, LOL
