I picked up some seasoned split wood last night. I backed into my shop tonight and split right into a 330 gallon IBC tote. I used a Harbor Freight bed unloader so I didn't have to crawl into the truck. I kept it inside until I deliver Sunday afternoon. Then the whole tote goes in the back of the truck. That's as close to a flip as I can get. Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
The bed unloader is the only way to go when you have a pickup. I don't understand why everyone doesn't use them.
Totally agree. Especially when they are so inexpensive. It takes a bit of care when loading but I love it. Just a few cranks and the wood comes right to me.
Harbor Freight bed unloader is earning its keep. I only had 9 pieces left in the bed to drag out. It was actually full when I started. Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
I totally agree. And I really don't want to climb in and out of my truck bed any more than necessary. Possibly the best $35 I ever spent.
Winter is more challenging when it comes to keeping the firewood stand filled for customers. But you do what you have to when it's dark, cold and snowy. The skid steer lights really help! Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
Thank you! Truthfully a headlamp would have gotten the job done but I use the skid steer to move the totes so why not take advantage of the lights!
1/3 cord of mixed hardwoods delivered and stacked. Got my steps in but not far to the side of the house. It isn't Nashville money but $200 including delivery (11 miles), stacking and tip works for me. Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
Way to get it done Gary! Sometimes the extra for moving and stacking makes it worthwhile. I dont mind the stacking as long as i can get close to the rack or garage. I had to wheelbarrow a half cord to a customers garage and stack inside yesterday. Shouldve gotten more but her and her late husband are long time regulars. He passed away suddenly two years ago and she has shoulder issues and a single mom. And no it wasnt Nashville money either!
I don't advertise delivery and I certainly don't advertise stacking. But when I asked where the customer wanted it, apparently dumping in the driveway wasn't part of their plan. So I was happy to accommodate. I went over all the details on the phone and itemized everything I charged. In the summer I would have felt comfortable backing right up to the stacking location but it was my first time there and everything was covered in snow. There were 2 drains sticking up and I didn't want to get stuck or pay to repair whatever was there. I hope you stayed on concrete the whole time! Wheelbarrowing a half cord is a bit of a workout!
Ya'll will be blessed for your efforts. Our 1st delivery yesterday, lady said she wanted to give us $50/load more than we usually charge from now on. She didn't think we were charging enough and she helps unload/stack it.
It was around her big oval pool deck. I shouldve got more but felt bad for her being a new widow. I dont really like the stacking again part but all part of the business. Today was a PITA as i had to unload a half cord of nuggets into the guys trailer rather than dump them. He gave me a good tip on the last load so no biggie and he'll be buying my cord of BL nuggets in less than a month.
You found the nugget king! I know customer pick ups don't work well for you but since he has a trailer and wants a whole cord...I'd try really hard to figure out how to make that happen!
Its an over sized quad trailer and he's 5 minutes from storage so not a big deal. I dont offer pick up as the wood is not on my property. PITA thing is i have to wheelbarrow them to load due to my postage stamp storage area.
LOL!!! I cant imagine the look on my friends face if i had that in his front yard! Although he had kept offering me more storage which i initially refused. I have 25 cords stored on a postage stamp. ...just at this location! Well over 25 more at three other locations. Guess i have a hoarding problem!
