Best thing I ever did to Windoze 8 was put Start8 by Stardock in it. Best $5 I ever spent. It actually makes it somewhat user friendly.

I do a fair bit of server work, and Server 2012 makes Windows 8 look friendly. Probably just me not knowing WTH I'm doing.

I still use Windows 7 on my work laptop. Mac at home. Not in any hurry to jump to Windows 10.

The best thing I ever did to Windows 8 was totally remove it from this machine.

For what a 1TB hard drive sells for these days I don't think I'd bother with cloud storage or USB sticks for what your doing. Could buy an external drive and many newer wifi routers will allow you to plug in the drive directly and then it's accessible from any computer on the network.

I ended up breaking down and bought a 4T drive and put it in my main rig, and everything gets stored there. I have a few 500G USB hard drives I lug around, but when I get home all data is transferred to the 4T drive. If I need more space on the 500s, then stuff gets removed, otherwise I keep it to have 2 copies.

Take away all the open ended-ness, standardize the hardware so device driver support isn't an issue and give it a uniform front-end (GUI/interface) and it could work......

Wait a second, we call that MAC OS.

    Don't forget the marketing! :wacky:

Is this Win 10 download easy for us folks who ain't too smart?
I have a laptop with Win 7, not unhappy with it, and use Chrome. Got the "Bargain Basement" speed from Comcast, says 6mbps, whatever that means.
I just got Microsoft office on it, instructions were pretty easy: "Put this here disk in that thing. Type in a big 'ol alphanumeric code. Got any problems, call this number, they will take it from there..."
Okay, that is the limit of my modern programming skills. Back in the day, I could create flowcharts and write line by line of BASIC. Today I don't even know what the heck an AP is. I don't have one of those smart phones, either.
However, I somehow suspect that Win 7 will go the way of XP, so if we don't get it for free this year, we have to buy it in the future. If it isn't too much trouble, and not a lot different, I can live with it.
I did have a tablet for a while that had 8 on it, it think, and it was annoying and useless.

I've got 4 different wireless cards, and they're all recognized with a "proprietary" driver.
The GUI diversity is what makes it fun. There's a front end for everybody.:D:thumbs:
Printers can still be a problem.

I reinstalled the original drive and restored my 8 backup, then did a bunch of updates (redoing the proper bios settings took some trial and error to get it to recognize the SD card I had my backup on). Downloading 8.1 right now, then we'll see what happens from there.

You can also adjust privacy settings after the fact.
