It almost pulled that spur where the crack is. Nice fall.

Got some time today to cut up and noodle about 1/3 of the 7 trailer loads from the White Oaks we cut over at the neighbor's. Still needs split to stove size firewood but getting it broke down to rounds and noodled to manageable chunks and up on pallets is the priority for now. This is in the pines processing area. Most of the wood we trailered home is up in the upper pasture processing area. There's probably 12 or more trailer loads up there. I can get 2 rows of 21" rounds and splits on the 40' long group of pallets. I've been meaning to get down here with some spray to get the grass and weeds away from the pallets but as you can see, I'm a slacker...

I'm hoping it makes a HUGE pile. Still a lot of work to do to get it into the 3 year rotation, but like you say, I'll keep putting an hour or two on it whenever I can.

Made short work of those. How long are those rounds? I usually noodle with a 20" bar.

I try to cut my firewood as close to 21" as I can. I can shoehorn a 22" split into my woodstove but that leaves NO margin for error. I normally cut most everything with either the 18" on my MS250 or the 24 inchers on the 357 or 362. I got out the 288 with the 32" on it cuz some of this was oversized and some was wonky at the crotch and I wanted as straight of cuts as I can get on the wonky pieces. This was a rare straight log that I just didn't feel like digging out of the pile to put up at the sawmill. Normally my firewood is the "seconds" that won't make lumber.

The 288 is just a load of fun to run so it gets the noodling chores as well when it's out... It just plain old tosses chips and noodles and makes the work go quick. It also doesn't take it long to drink a tank of mix, but it gets a bunch of work done while its sucking the tank dry... My favorite saw these days for anything over 22" for sure.

We have some knarly stuff in the upper pasture lot that'll take John's 660 with the 42" bar. We'll probably do some racing when we get to cutting up there... Boys and our toys :emb: :dex:

That would be fun. It's been plenty warm up here and I'm jealous of those big azz fans you have...

It was nice a few days ago, low 80's and cloudy...the jungle temps have returned.

Finished getting all the pile broken down and on pallets in the pines processing area. There is 48' of pallets that I get two rows on so I'm guessing about 4 cord of wood in this area waiting on the splitter. I have a few rounds of Hedge on the backside and a dozen or so rounds of Honey Locust mixed in. This is all slated for burning in the 27-28 heating season. It will probably not get split till winter hits and I'll spend a few evenings splitting under the light bar on the truck. I sweat a lot less in Nov / Dec than in August...

MS362CM got the call today to finish up the last of the cutting and noodling.

I'm glad to have it all up on pallets in the sun, but it's still needing some serious splitter time. I took 2 full loader bucket loads of nuglies over to the neighbors fire pit to light up our beer drinking contests and general stupid shenanigans...

We got a call from the neighbors to the north and they had another huge White Oak fall over. We went over and cut it up for them. John got 8 dump trailer loads and I got 8 dump trailer loads. I put mine by the pallets behind the pines so I can break it down and get it on pallets for the 28-29 heating season. I'll have to get another row of pallets going. There is 48' of pallets there now with the 27-28 season wood on it. This new wood is stretched out about 120' on the ground for now. We had a busy 2 days cutting that tree up and limbing and hauling it home. Probably another 6 or 7 cords in this batch. They have another dead White Oak they want us to drop that we'll probably go get when the ground gets frozen. It'll probably yield more wood than this tree. It's another monster sized tree.

I cut a huge limb knot off to give to FHC brother to make some bowls. I hope they can get some use from it. that part of the tree was very solid.
The saw is my 357 with a 24" bar on it to give some scale to the size of this branch knot!!!

It was a lot of work but fun to work on these big ones.

That's a ton of wood, brother. I think we've cut one tree before that had some limbs that took all of the 25" bar to cut through.
    Well done, my friend

Gonna need a big lathe to spin that thing LOL. Years ago I mused about bolting some big pieces to my John Deere tractor rim and using that for a lathe :)

Daaaang, save some for the rest of us ol' buddy!! :D

Lotta work in those big oaks but they are still my favorite. I love getting 50-60 or more splits from one single billet, looks like those big ones will yield even more than that! And nothing in the firewood world smells better than working up White oak.....well maybe sassafras......
