I spotted a free wood sign on my way home from work today. At first I thought I hit the mother lode of ash, but now I'm thinking it's willow. I didn't have time to grab any, but may stop in over the weekend.

It's not willow. Looks to be either ash, or maybe Norway maple. I'd grab as much of that tree as you could.

Reddish color under bark makes me think Maple as well. Don't hesitate.

Norway Maple is what my eye sees. Not like any willow I've seen here in western MA.

Watch out for hidden rocks as you wade through that pile of logs. with your saw. They look to be at varying heights.

Nice score - Good luck with it.

The last time I got a maple that looked like that it made very few nice looking splits...a huge pile of UGLY...and a good workout for the splitter! Sure burns nice though...
