My 04 v8 4runner outpulls the old 2500 350 Chevy we had, any day of the week, even when the 2500 was new.

Now, I wouldn't load a bucket of gravel in the 4runner, but, towing wise, and that's a lot of what a truck is for, the 4runner is more than worthy.

Yeah, I've put in 29 bags of pellets and it wasn't even squatting. Would have taken more, but that was the end of the pallet and I wasn't going to ask the guy to open another.

I was happy last weekend to find that I could fit 4x8 plywood in it - picked up 5 pieces (did have to tie the back door down). I haven't had the truck all that long so am still discovering what it can handle.
Oh, and that car that ran into me and was totaled, only scratched my bumper :D(seriously, the car was totaled) . The car did leave a souvenir in the tire that had to be removed by de-rimming, but that was it.

Sounds like a truck to me, regardless if it is called an SUV

Must be something wrong with your truck (other than it being a Chevy)!! Pull 6 ton through the streets of Pittsburgh and let me take a look at the brakes when you're finished.

That's too bad - the Ex bought a 2000 Tacoma (extended cab - not crew cab) brand new and he freighted the heck out of it with stumps, rocks, sand, manure etc. He would got get sand/rock from the gravel pit and they would weigh him out with a 1.2 to 1.5 ton load. That sucker would be low-riding, but he never had any trouble with getting the load where it needed to go. That thing was a 6-cylinder, manual tranny effin workhorse until he traded it in a little over a year ago.

Is it an 05 or newer? I drove at several of them before I settled on my 05 Frontier. My impression is that the Taco was designed as a daily driver with a plastic bed for occasional light use.

1989 Toyota truck, 1999 Tacoma and now a 2015 Tacoma is what we are hauling firewood in. Wet heavy hemlock makes a heavy load. campinspecter had air bags installed in the back end to keep the truck level under loads. This is our third Toyota truck and they all have performed well with loads and towing. The first two towed our 23 ft sailboat with no problems and we have a r-pod RV trailer as well.

I was always impressed with what my Rangers could do. My dad borrowed mine once and put just over 2,000 lbs of gravel in the bed. I was pretty ticked at him, but it didn't seem to do any long term harm.

My 72 Dodge isn't registered, so it doesn't go on the road. So my Focus hatchback does the hauling! Top carrier, rear seat folded down, it can haul a pretty good load. Hauling the fresh rabbit manure was a mistake though.

Good, it'll pull your Dodge out when it gets stuck and you know the 4runner will always get you home. ;)

It had the brakes, and the suspension but that was it. That TBI 350 was gutless. It blew at 125k. Replaced the motor with a low mile replacement and it was still a dog.

Well, my wife backtracked and thinks it'd be better if I get a midsized SUV with a 3rd row like a Honda Pilot or Nissan Pathfinder. I've been in the 3rd row of those, and there isn't much leg room. So the next step is to take her to a car lot and show her how wide the F150 is and how much room there will be for 3 sitting in the back.

Not sure if I mentioned that we'll probably start trying for a 3rd kid next year, hence the need for more room. I'm pretty sure my wife's plan is to convince me to get the "family vehicle" so she doesn't get stuck with a mini van when we outgrow her CR-V! Personally, I'd rather keep my truck than drive an SUV. I've put a lot of time and money in it over the years; I've added a full amplified sound system and 10" bass speaker, headers, cat-back exhaust, cold air intake, a tuner, small suspension lift, and a Detroit Tru Trac in the rear it's hard to give that up. I'd rather get my wife an SUV and I'll get a small car like a Civic SI or a Mazda 3. The kicker there is if I'm stuck driving a car I really want it to be a manual, and my wife doesn't like driving a stick if/when we have to switch vehicles for a day.

I've got some time before I pull the trigger regardless. I actually have 2 vehicles right now and my Frontier needs some work. So the order of business is first fix the truck, then sell the car, then I can get serious about buying something. Maybe by then the 2017 F150's will be out and there will be some better deals on the 2016's.
