4-runner = truck with a topper on it (until they got all fancified - my first 4-runner, an '86, actually came as advertised the topper could be taken off).

However, my last SUV (Patriot) was on a car chassis and I did call it a car, so you have a point.

I'm actually looking at the 2.7 eco, it seems people are actually getting the mileage Ford claims it gets and the power isn't that far below what the 3.5 eco has. I'm also tempted to wait until 2017, the 3.5 eco will be completely new with similar tech that the 2.7eco has.

You get get into a base F150 for fairly cheap. But add 4wd and a crew cab and one of the more powerful engines and suddenly you're approaching $40k territory!

No kidding! Luckily I just picked up a tandem axle trailer last month so I won't have to worry about putting anything in the bed!

Actually, I'm pretty bad about scratching and denting my trucks. I had my current one creek crawling the first month after I had it, putting the skid plates to good use. Slid into a tree off-road within the first year and dented the side of the bed. I'm a little older now and don't get to do that sort of stuff anymore, but I'm still not the type to lose any sleep over the first scratch.

I am always amazed at the people with their big ole pickup trucks, who pull a trailer to haul a garbage can or two to the dump because they don't want to get their trucks dirty. Meanwhile, no matter what I am driving, I've got braches, leaves, stumps, sheetrock, old insulation etc. heaped up in the back 2/3rds of my SUV (and sometimes into the passengers seat too) when I go tot he dump. My only nod to keeping it somewhat clean is to lay cardboard sheets down before piling in the stuff I'm moving. Actually, that cardboard is pretty much there unless I have a reason put the rear seat backs into the upright position.

Oh, how true. I see people all the time pulling trailers "loaded" with 2 sheets of plywood and a couple of 2x4's, they could of laid in the bed of their truck.
Now my Tacoma 4 door with the 5 foot bed was useless, to short to narrow and 500 lbs overloaded it.

Wow, you aren't kidding! There's a pretty nice Platinum there for close to the cost of what I was looking at new. I'll keep checking to see what else pops up, it's just barely within my limits of how far I'll drive for a good deal.

Yes, but did you put trash barrels in the bed of the truck? I literally watch people trailer in one or two 33 gal trash barrels with their shiny trucks. Lack of capacity is an issue that I could understand, but when it's because they can't stand to make a truck act like a truck, then I have to laugh. He!! my mother uses her MKX to move bags of wood mulch, rocks and even small trees when she needs to. Just lays a blanket down and starts to loading

You are so right! a buddy has a GMC high country.. All bells and whistles but he asks to borrow my trailer to move a push snowblower! I'm like throw it in back of truck no I might scratch it... I cannot see paying close to 60 grand for a truck :bug: and then not even having a truck my 1200 dollar 16 year old Saab with a trailer hitch can do that! probably why I got a trailer!

I have noticed a LOT of people with small 5x8 or so trailers behind their trucks, typically a crew cab. When I was growing up our minivan was our "truck" around the farm! I couldn't tell you the number of times I had to lug those heavy seats out so we'd have a flat "bed" to haul lumber or drywall or goats or chickens!! My parents were pretty excited when I bought my first vehicle, a little Ranger! They probably used it to haul stuff almost as much as I did when I still lived with them.

The Tacoma is not a truck but it has hauled its share. The Dodge is a truck and it sees 4000 lb trips regularly during pellet burning season. I do not own a trailer.

I purchased my ranger for winter use (4wd for snow to keep the firebirds, and now the canaro (yes, they come iu in winter as long as no wet salty roads, they are out in rain, never garage queens) out of it) hauling pellets, crushed gravel, mulch, helping move people, etc.

That does do a number on you when they start playing their game, and you have to start making counter offers. There is a Ford dealer near here that has prices on his vehicles. They are the final prices. So if you are not trading, you know right off what the bottom line is. If you are trading, what you get for your trade depends on what you are trading for.

Trucks have full size spares, a lot of times matching the alloys that are the regular 4 wheels.

But yeah, many don't come with a spare. A can of fix a flat is your spare. :picard:

Not in all cases. The 4runner is on a real frame, a body on frame construction. The Lexus gx is too. So while it doesn't have a bed, it's no car.

Explorer sport trac has a bed, and is a body on frame vehicle.

My parent's 02 v8 explorer is on the same chassis as your 04. A real frame on it too, no unibody.

Load er up. It can take it. :)

I'm trying to get the details on that deal, but I priced out a 4x4 crew with the base v6, and it was well the 27k they said it msrp'd at. It's probably a rwd, XL reg cab base v6, but auto 6 spd as there are no manual f150s anymore.

If it's real, and I think there was an asterisk that was so microscopic, I will let you know. Dealers always pull the "not per picture" BS.
