The checks from Wonder Bread and all the local dairies are funneling in at breakneck speed to the news stations, and the forecast just keeps getting more and more dire. BUY BUY BUY CONSUME SPEND! WE'RE ALL GOING TO BE LOCKED INTO OUR HOMES UNTIL THE NATIONAL GUARD CAN DIG US OUT IN APRIL!

The last time the national weather service called for 4-7" in this area............ we got about 2".

I'm thinking we need to get away from computer modeling. Meteorologists weren't good when i was a kid but they seem to have gotten worse.

Adams County appears to be in the 4-8" range. Guess I'll dust off the snow blower saturday morning. Maybe that'll knock it down to 2.

Is Daniel a junior now Scotty?

Ive found some of the youtube meteorologists to be more accurate with snow predictions than the msm. Direct Weather is the one I can think of off the top of my head.

I'll be bummed out if we do get more than 4" of snow. Starter in quad went out. Have one on order and may be here Saturday.
Plus that's how I hillbilly "plow" our driveway. I just drive all over it with the quad.  Though I did get a nice snowblower for free 2 years ago. But that's not as fun.

Acquire ingredients for milk sandwiches. Check!
    Verify rocksalt on hand. Check!

    Tomorrow
    Double check oil in snowblowers.
Add gas to snowblowers and start. Run until warm.
Put up several gallons of water, in case of power outage
Top off wood rack on deck.
Re-walk areas to be snowblown, to minimize shear-pin usage.

    Sunday
Take down Christmas tree while watching it snow.

When i lived with my dad we'd do that. He had a crushed stone driveway and it was level. Worked great.
We had another name for it based on our nationality which i wont mention!

Yeah... I guess I gotta get ready.

Which means I need to bring a wheelbarrow load of wood from the backyard to the rack in the garage. That should do us.

Tomorrow is my wife's birthday. We're thinking of going to Ski Liberty for dinner. That means we won't have to hoard food.

    Gonna be rough!

Put the plow on the truck. Little Black Locust in the back for weight. Now the fun part.

I believe that’s an official federal national weather service map. You wouldnt want me to disregard federal dictates would you?

that holds true for so many things, how sick I am, my constant lack of love, pleasure, health, or whatever they say I deserve or don't have.
I particularly hate the "own it now on DVD" I used to hear.

Went to Aldi for a few things I forgot a week ago. Eggs were gone. I guess everyone either forgot to grab a couple, or is planning on survivors coming to the door for their last meal (or first meal in many days).
More than anything, I enjoy asking the cashiers (if they're still called that) how things have been for the day and what they attribute that busyness to. Their answers sometimes surprise me. But most of them love to talk about their work and day.

The truck/fuel is topped off. Nothing big, but it's the easy things to do, in case things DO get stupid......not the snow, but stacked events stupid.

    Bigger picture:
Last night talking with Stumpy: when there's things going on that warrant, I enjoy taking a critical step back to take stock of our situation, preparedness, vulnerabilities. I feel that it is my responsibility for us to be able to handle minor events without help: extended power outages, big snow, hurricanes, being locked down for a few weeks.

I don't dwell on those issues, but a little thinking ahead, a little strategic planning goes so far. And I enjoy the chance to try our hand against a minor event like this storm. Kinda a dry run; what would we do if (it went for a day or more beyond forecast etc)?

The last larger snow/power loss storms E Wanderweg mentioned were in 2011 around here. Folks who were around 10 at the time wouldn't have much memory or cognizance of what their folks went through to keep things afloat during those 2 storms that put us out of juice for a week or so each. So, local 20 to 25 year olds haven't had to prepare for that kind of event stacking: weather event/utility loss/food and comfort lack/financial issues following. And they're now on their own (well maybe) some with families.

I was sorta that crowd: somewhat unprepared for life without electric in an electrically dependent apartment. We figured a few things out. We watched others' mistakes and fallout, and further refined our 'storm shelf'/'rainy day supplies'.

It's fun to encourage others to asses their situations similarly.....before an event hits.

I have a 400 pound yard roller I use to pack a base on our driveway before plowing. I like having that hard base under future snows if possible.

I jinxed myself. Feeling deflated, I had to bring the ol’ Snapper 826 to the OPE dealer down the road. Despite having fuel, air and spark, I could not get it to start….even with cheater spray.
