So, I am hoping for LBT this tonight or tomorrow. So far he has only swept the pipe. Do the LBT before detailed cleaning to get most the junk out? Or after to get stuff out of the nooks and crannies?

I dump the ash pan (vacuum it up), then hook up the leaf blower. Once the cloud starts to go away, I take a wire brush to the heat exchanger and tap. Once that cloud settles, I in hook the leaf blower and put a chimney cleaning brush in my drill and go in and out of the vent. Hook the leaf blower back up and suck out whatever is left. Works like a charm.

As you can see I run a dryer vent from the leaf blower to the vent. Get the ash away from my house and closer to y neighbors.

Ive found a sure fire way to not have to fire the stove yet...Since it is still 60ish in the house in the morning, go outside to let the dog out with your bare feet and shorts on. When you come back in it feels soooooo warm

I was not going to give in yesterday, but with the house in the low 60's and arthritis I had enough and decided it was time to warm the bones. Ran the stove most of the day yesterday. I drifted off about 8 and woke up at 10 and felt like a lizard under a heat lamp. House got up to 77 degrees so I killed the stove for the night!

No I do not run a stat on the stove. Problem being Is without doing a modification to the burn pot you occasionally get a smoldering fire in the ash pan after the stove shuts down. It has happened twice and left a haze and terrible smell in the house so I do not risk it! Once we get into the real cold the stove will run non stop until I shut it down for cleaning, so I have never worried with it. I shot the pic last year of a ash pan fire while the stove was running.

No LBT here, not needed so far. (But piping and flue block plate are easily accessed & removed, so only 15-20 minutes to unhook and put back together.)
We do use a small (3 gal.) air compressor w/ blow gun tip on deep cleaning to blast out the passages in the stove - that gets a good amount of ash from around the heat exchange tubes I'd otherwise miss w/ the brush though.
