The news article has a very important fact wrong. The whistle should be making noise when filling and stop when the tank is full.

The whistle is audible throughout the filling process?

Still, plug the fill pipe if it isn't removed with the tank.

Yes the whistle is telling you 1 that you are filling a tank 2 that it’s not full. If you don’t hear it you shouldn’t keep filling especially not 400 gallons! Lol. I agree that it should have been capped.

I have oil tanks, yes Warner is right as usual; the oil displaces the air in the tank and the second pipe has a whistle on it that air moving through it makes sound.
Oil fill pipe are 1.5 -2” BIP no tank so it’s loose. Literally just pull it out fill with foam.. I did this several times as NG lines because available

Should anyone in the area be looking for a job as an oil delivery driver, I bet a spot just opened up.

That’s wild that the piping was still in place. Or at the very least, should have been capped. Heck, there’s a tag in our fireplace insert that states a pellet stove was installed and things need to be changed if it was to be used as a fireplace again. (I see it when I pull the stove out for a deep clean)

Turns out leaving the fill pipe in place after removing the oil tank, is against Mass state code. The lawyers will have fun with this one.

That’s for sure! And I can only imagine how long it will take to sort things out.

30 mm threaded shaft on our pellet mill decided to snap today. This thing has been a joke since we bought it new. I've put over 40 bearings in the dies drive wheels. Factory says that we are the only person with any issues. Factory said to torque the nut on the shaft to two fingers tight from a 150 pound man. I asked him to get that in writing. Nut is only torqued to 14 - 17 ft. Lbs.

The way that break tapers to a point in the middle, looks to me like the shaft was bent...that would explain eating all those bearings too.

The reason it broke is quite fundamental. You cannot use imperial torques on metric threads.
