We used the big one for years, but now the small one does OK because we are are here most all the time. Thing to look for is one that can be filled easily. If large one, get one on wheels. Get one that can be cleaned easily and one that the evaporator is not to costly to replace. Keeping them clean is really important, but so easy to overlook. Then you have a nice germ factory going.

Have 1 smaller one in the bedroom for overnights. Works well. Haven't pulled the trigger on a big one yet. Thanks for the tips!

Picked some up of the water treatment you posted at Lowes on the way home from work last night.. Should last for years! This humidifier is very quiet and we are happy with it.. My only complaints are the tank is too tall to fit under kitchen spigot and it has to be filled often due to it's small capacity otherwise a great deal for the money! :)

You know you can fill that tank up, Let it empty and fill it again immediately don't you?
You got a hell of a deal on those buggers.
Filling water up is a pain in the butt, I have two 2 qt pans on the stove I have to keep filled up plus the humidifier, I fill my humidifier up in the bathtub, Lately I have been filling it with warm water and it seems to evaporate quicker so puts more moisture in the air, I always run it on low so it's quiet.
You will be surprised with the water treatment it will last quite a while but not as long as you think, I put two capfuls per tank

If I can get a full year from the filter wick I will be happy! I used 2 cap fulls myself.. Next fill I am using a small medicine cup as i think this will be easier to use than the cap..Good idea on filling then refilling this will make a big difference!

Guess I need to bring the humidifier out, I knew it was dry in here but both my lil portable hygrometer and the one on my wall clock will not read below 16% and 12%. Thought the aquarium was doing more than it is.

Wow that is bone dry! Aquariums don't add much moisture unless they leak ;)

The fact that the humidity sensor is located in the cord near the floor has much to do with it.. You would need to locate your hygrometer beside the humidifier sensor so you are comparing apples to apples.. Hygrometers tend to drift and need to be calibrated as they lose accuracy over time.. The only way I know to calibrate them is to cover the sensor with a damp cloth and leave it there for an hour and you should see 100%.. Air must be able to get to the sensor freely so like real estate it's all about location.. That being said I don't trust any hygrometers 100%.. AC guys used to rely on a sling psychrometer and I believe this instrument would be accurate.. Even these are accurate within 5%..

I have the same issue. Definitely related to the sensor on the cord

, feel like I've been run over by a truck. Dug out the EssickAir humidifier and wick replacements. That's about as much as I got done all day. Need to clean out the tray and wick holder (its VERY windy in storage so there's dirt & dust on all the above). We are used to single digit humidity but the flu has changed that. We had it up to 18% today after simmering a pot on our electric kitchen stove all day. Turned the burner off for a nap and poof, back down to 8 :picard:

    Hope you feel better.
If it gets down to 16% here I get chapped lips and my nose is all stuffed up

Hi Hoarders, I've been using the same water pitcher to fill the humidifier and also water my plants. Suppose a quick rinse is adequate enough to get the bateriostat out?

I would imagine it would rinse out.. If not you won't have moldy plants :)
