No, these came from a fellow here in KY who I have bought saws from in the past. He actually delivered them to me on his way to visit his daughter.

Just looked those up, there were 9 in that lot in NE Tennessee. Note that mine have the guards that come all the way to the back of the mount.

Bow bars are not cheap and NOS ones are becoming harder to find.

The guy looking for one I gave him NE texas bow bars which was the company that use to supply baileys about 10 yrs ago with their bows. I noticed about 8 yrs ago or so they stopped selling g them..saw a post on AS by baileys that said that they quit selling due to threatened lawsuits by a "european saw maker".

Anyway the guy called and the number was no longer in service, so I guess they are out of business now?

I think the reason they are no longer available is safety rather than any patent or trademark infringement. There are many companies that produce bars and there seem to be no issues with that. I am not aware of anyone who currently manufactures and markets bows but I have not done a search either.

What's the reasoning behind a bow bar?

Bows dont pinch in the cut, you use the front of it so you dont have to lean over as much. They used them in the south here back with the "short wood days" cause they bucked everything into like 6ft logs and lots of cuts...the firewood stuff is an off shoot of what pros used. When I first started as a forester in 04 we had one small crew left from short wood days. They converted the truck to haul wood longways. It had the pto winch and seat on top of cab. They mostly hauled 16ft plylogs bit would haul a load of pulp if you about begged um. It was about 20ft length of pulp wood. They cut with 044s and bow bars.

Guido what I quoted from AS was an old post I dug up about why baileys no longer carries bows. I remember seeing g them in about 04-06 online and in catalogue. Between then and a fee years ago they disappeared. So I Google it and the AS search came up with a guy who works for baileys.

I am probably going to post up an ad or thread of what is for sale, or what I intend to bring if there is interest. I am packing light! If someone wants something, I will bring it with me, otherwise- I will be bringing my 064, and either my 038 or 044. Two saws for me! I think my partner in crime is doing the same, much more and things start getting cramped. Not sure if I am driving the car or truck, would like to save gas but may end up driving my truck anyway.
I am going to try and finish a carving to raffle off too. Proceeds will be split between the host and the guy supplying the cants :)
