The view from my front porch this rainy morning, 05/18/16. Have mowed twice. But we did have a light frost on the 16th. The hedge apple trees aren't quite out all the way yet.
I only see one tree near me with almost no leaves. It is a large ash yard tree at a neighbor's house but I don't expect to see any more leaves on it this year. It just has a very few leaves on 2 or 3 low branches. The ash trees across the street have had leaves for at least 2 weeks now so I doubt it is the weather.
In addition to the shag hickory leaves that were turned black by frost this past weekend, I also noticed the locust in my woods now have black and shriveled leaves.
Ash does tend to leaf out late but others in the area are fully in leaf now. I think the one on the corner is an EAB victim.
Most did okay or so it appears right now. We'll know for sure on the apples within a week or two. Thanks Larry.
lilacs on south side of house opened today.. north side are still in bud... popular trees are starting to leaf.. sugar maples still in bud.. got to 64 today and I finally had to mow whole lawn... but it is middle of May!
Here are some photos from today, 1104,1105, &1106 are updated from my yard where the thread started. The others were taken this morning up to camp where there is still some snow to be seen.
What ski mountain are you near at camp? I really enjoyed Killington so many many years ago. (I may have stated before) My brain is getting
The ski area is Bretton Woods in NH. It is across from MT. Washington @ 6288' the highest peak in the northeast, all the presidentials ( the nearby mts. in the same range) are all still snow covered.
