This is the first taste of winter we have had in a while. Weatherman 6-10” more snow coming tomorrow. We have 9-10” on the ground now. The wife, kids and myself are excited about more snow!! We hope the weather man is right.update, 10-14”!!
I'm enjoying it personally... Its just rather hard keeping up with the heat demand at these temperatures... I like fall and spring...but summer I just cant handle the heat like I used too after being overheated a couple of time.... As I say I can always put on more clothes by legal means than I can take off....
Still enjoying the cold weather here, but we haven’t had enough snowfall to prevent me from being able to get in the woods. Some of the members are pretty well snowed in and my opinion may be different if that were the case! Spring will be here soon enough!
I'm still enjoying the relative quiet compared to the circus that comes with spring. The wind has kept me out of the woods though. My log yard is getting depleted & the weather has made for difficult working conditions the past couple weekends, but it won't be this cold too much longer. I do not like the heat & humidity at all, so in short I'm hoping it stays a bit yet.
I dont mind the cold temps or working in them, i just tire of snow cover as it stops/limits what i can do wood wise. The frozen dry ground we had in January was great. Barely had any last year and it was a mud fest.
This winter isn't bothering me as much as ones in the past. I'm getting older quickly and starting to wish time would just slow down, better or worse. And it seems things are staying clean and white and not a dirty sloppy puddle laden mess. Ask me about it again in a couple three weeks or so and my opinion might be different.
Yes. I’m at least ready for temps in the 20s or 30s. This high of 3 degrees for three weeks sucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Real winter weather just started around the end of January here so I’m ready alright.....for more snow!!!
I used to really enjoy winter but not any more. I also used to enjoy cutting wood in winter until it got so cold I could not keep feet and hands warm. Seems polio left me with cold feet and hands but even with that I did enjoy winter until I got a bit older. Also I have not been able to cut wood much the past couple of years which makes things worse. I also do not like the sticky hot summer days, but at least I don't get too cold then. All in all, I'm ready for spring, but not summer. I wish it was October all year long.
My niece has been in charge of finding homes for them. However, I am sure that she has not gotten much accomplished, yet. They are 7/8 Black Lab and about 1/8 Husky. Most are female. I only have two males left, and I will probably keep one of them. The other is already spoken for, I think. It would have to be a female if he wanted one. Pennsylvania's a long ways off, how would you get one to him?
I can only burn super dry sugar maple, bitternut hickory, or rock elm without guilt when the temperatures are below 15 deg F. I "hoard" wood which can lock on my furnace blower on the coldest mornings. It seems a waste to burn such "hot" wood above 20 deg F and so I burn oak, elm, and ash on mild winter days. I few weeks of winter COLD saves me a lot of guilt and I can gloat over hoarding the "hot" wood. Gloating ends after a few weeks and we get tired of being inside. A return to the 20's feels so nice and so we get out to hike. Winter works for us as long as the COLD does not last too long. One more week of gloating and then the weather will be nice enough to hike.
Winter doesn't bother me that much, except it creates extra work that has to be done, and cost more money for feed. The other thing is, I live on a mountain with a steep climb, and requires good tires and 4WD, not mention a little skill and guts to navigate it. I have seen it whip out four wheel drives under the worst of conditions. Right now we have a layer of ice under powder snow, and it can get a little dicey especially if you meet some one coming from the other direction. And some of neighbors are sorry ice and snow drivers.
Ok, I will take a picture of them, here in a little while, next time I go out to check on them, and post it here.
