Might be it! Seems to me that the door top gasket could be tighter.
(mental to note to self: do not perform dollar bill test on stove door while lit)

I'm thinking it looks like a lively blaze which is dumping all his heat outside! :headbang:

I have a Drolet Eastwood 1800 2.2 CF wood stove and am happy with it. I got it from Menards on clearance four years ago for $699. I rarely have to clean the glass with its air wash and it heats my 3200 sq ft house down to -30 F stat alone. I should say though that I don't heat the downstairs but it must get some heat from the upstairs since it stays around 52 even when it doesn't go above zero for a week which is what's going on now.

As I said earlier (yesterday), I didn't build a "serious" fire in it as I wanted to keep the smell of the new adjustable 90"s paint burning off. Tonight, I built a bit larger fire and closed off the air control (again). I am getting a bit of secondary combustion now, but not a large amount. Tomorrow, I will probably fire that dog for what it is worth and see what happens.
I also adjusted the door handle to close tighter. Until I get a replacement gasket, that will have to do. I did notice one area of stained black soot at the bottom of the door-looks like air is entering at that point?

That's one thing I don't think that I can do to the Eastwood. At first glance I thought I could tighten the nut on the inside part of the hande. It was pretty tight but I saw that it was a stay tight nut and gave it some torque twisting the whole thing right off. Then I welded it back together and I'll order a new handle some time in the future.

Hello Wisc! Been awhile since we've chatted. Colder than all get out here, too. Wind is blowing, snow is falling as fast as the temps, schools are already cancelling for tomorrow.

After a bit more research, Menards used to sell the model I have for around $525. (That was up till a couple years ago??) The drolet eldorado being sold at menards now-a-days fetches $930. Both stove prices included the blower motor. As far as I can tell, the stainless secondaries in my stove are welded in the stove. I don't know if they are welded in the current model or not. Can't quite understand that one...

Yes it has been some time! It's a little odd that your tubes would be welded in.... My stove has the vermiculite piece and a blanket above the tubes and they need to be taken out to clean above well not to mention replacing them someday. You are right about the cold, every time I got up to pee last night I was on the stove feeding her but considering that it's -18 out with wind on top of that its done well keeping the place warm.

I got that little eldorado rockin today and it's throwing the heat like would be expected! Now that I'm burning it hard enough, I think it'll be OK. Still have a couple black soot draw marks along the bottom of the door gasket, so that's on the list to replace.
And, there is a definite difference when the air control is open or closed. Seems like I got a deal for $223.
My partner at work already expressed interest in it; I answered that maybe in the spring I would upgrade to another. We'll see about that-it would have to be a pretty good deal, though!

Hee hee hee! Had that little eldorado racking again tonight! 99 lbs comes down to the basement and says "Can I turn the fan on the wood stove?" Just another below zero day here folks, nothing to see.
