So I went out and got another thermostat for the 30 as the one I have is going on 10 years. I also picked up an IR recently and Im getting three different readings. The widest gap being between the two analogs, on one Im getting 700 and the other in the mid 400s. The IR is 590ish. Im aiming the IR in the same general direction where the analogs are. Has anyone seen this before?
Are you shooting the IR at a right angle to the surface. If so I would tend to believe that reading. Oops just looked at the picture again, looks like you are shooting at an angle. Might try it straight on and see if that makes a difference. Gary
Check them in boiling water. Except the IR that is. On e you know how far off the bimetal units are, then you will know if the IR is correct or not.
We found great differences in the magnetic thermometers especially with rutland. We have 2 that we got from Woodstock Soapstone and they are the most accurate. They are now 7+ years old and this year I found one is off a bit but not bad yet. I'll believe the IR gun first.
Thermocouple is probably most accurate, Auber instruments has a nice digital unit for wood stoves with alarms.
