    Robyn...
Have you lifted the trivet ???

I have had shells fall through the trivet and smoke when the stove gets hot.

Could you have a couple pellets laying in that area making a stink ?????
During filling the hopper its easy to have a pellet or two fall into the slots.

Or a missing screw that holds the top to the fire box top....

Robyn sounds like a good thing Snowy is suggesting to check into, since you can't seem to find smoke source otherwise.

Here a while back... a late night fillemup resulted in getting some shells down under the trivet...about half hour later I am not quite asleep and I smell smoke .

Stumble out to investigate and it took a bit to discover the trouble.

Lifted the trivet and scraped out the offending materials.

Still skunked up the house though...

OK, I cleaned under the trivet. It had lots of black sooty stuff on it. Took multiple washings to make it clean. I will hold off on taking apart the top until I test everything I have already done with the new fan assembly. Fan coming tomorrow sometime so I will report back once it is installed and tested.

Update - I installed the new fan, fired up the stove and still have a faint smell in the back of the stove but it is NOT smelling in the room and NOT making soot on my furniture and seems to be burning properly so I am letting it go . . . Sending a photo. The glass is a little dirty so the flame looks a little different in the photo than in reality, plus I am a terrible photographer! Thanks to all of you for your support. You are awesome and I am warm and cozy again!

If you can still smell smoke, there is still an issue.

I don't see a surge protector for the stove, It would be wise to get one. Here's a recommended one

I get a tiny whiffffff of smoke smell at the rear of mine off and on...usually after a vent scrub with the brush and an LBT
Can't smell it in the room.
A pin prick will do this.
In many cases its like searching for Eldorado.

Did you remove the trivet and check for a pellet in that area ????
Also check for missing screws that go into the combustion area.

I checked and double checked everywhere that was suggested, siliconed every seam, replaced the fan, cleaned it thoroughly, took apart the pipes, cleaned them and reassembled them and siliconed them. If there is a pinhole, I can't find it. I have a glass table sitting right next to the stove that I am watching to see if it gets black sooty stuff on it. Day 4 and still perfectly clean and the fire is burning beautifully so I am going to ignore the faint smell for now and see how it goes. It bugs me that I can't find the source but I have to let it go for now!

Not sure what you mean. Where is the black edging you are referring to?

She's asking about the black edging that goes around the hearth ("base") that your stove is sitting on.

The hearth "Frame" is likely a steel angle
Most commercially produced hearth pads use a steel frame.

    A couple pix
1/8" X 1-1/2" X 1-1/2" Steel angle (A common material used for the frames of hearth pads.
