How easy does the fan spin when you spin it by hand? (Power off and unplugged).
It should spin easy and not stop right away.
Based on what I have read so far (you said it turns for a few seconds and stops when powered up, and you have never oiled it) the oil is all dried up and "gummy".
I have the II-T since 97ish and oiled the motors every year. Same motors (other than the augur).
Iirc, I dont remember the manual stating to oil that motor.
Imo, the best thing to do is to replace the motor, as getting it ungummed does not always work (at least for me).

Great! Thanks! I will wait for suggestions for replacement motor/fan assemblies suggestions. One more question. I installed it with a vertical rise and a cleanout outside that is supposed to prevent backdraft in the event of a power outage and also help with draft overall. I get this, but doesn't it also make it harder for the blower because of the additional length and turbulence? Which do you recommend?

Here is the chart for EVL (Equivalent Vent Length). If yours comes out more than 15, you should increase the vent to 4" (unless it's 4" already). Also, this assumes a perfectly clean pipe.

"A rule of thumb equation we are using has been adopted by most pellet manufactures. The equation is called the sum of Equivalent Vertical Length (EVL). All of the above mentioned venting restrictions have been assigned EVL values as follows:

    1. Each 45 degree elbow = 3 EVL
    2. Each 90 degree elbow and Tees with cleanout = 5 EVL
    3. Each foot of horizontal run = 1 EVL
    4. Each foot of Vertical run = 0.5 EVL
    5. Elevations above 3000 ft with an EVL of 7 must adapt to 4 inch vent pipe.

If your installation is below 3000ft, we would need to do some math. The rule of thumb equations is that if the sum of the EVL is 15 or greater, then the pellet vent pipe would be increased to 4 inch diameter pellet vent pipe."

Hers has oil ports. We already recommended to her to put 3-4 drops of light oil in each port and spin it by hand some.

I'd call him on the phone if it were me. Click on the orange link in his signature. I'm curious about the difference in the part numbers too, 10 or 09.

The manual didnt indicate to oil as they may want to sell motors?

My manual says to oil it every 6 months or yearly depending on use with 30 weight SAE non detergent oil at the 2 lubrication points.

Use the Blue label 3 in 1

I have been using it for years..

Or you can use high temp turbine oil.

Many times the part numbers change due to factors such as supplier

There are many motors that will bolt on and do the job.

I am working with don2222 to get pricing and delivery time. Right now I have a towel stuffed in the fan housing to keep the cold air out of my house! I am still not sure this will solve the smell problem but am crossing my fingers that somehow the weak fan or the ash buildup was the cause. Not sure that makes any sense but I siliconed every joint I could find so . . .

I spent some time going over my Advantage 2 T looking for any places that could leak smoke other than what we have already covered.

What I think needs to be done is to remove the top cover panel.

Under the trivet are some screws that go through the top of the fire box/fire tube area.

These screws go through into the area where the hot gases and smoke travel.

Remove the entire top of the stove as well as the right side panel (sit the right panel so the control stays connected)
Get the entire rear panel off as well.

BE SURE THE TWO SCREWS HOLDING THE TOP ON WERE IN THERE AND SCREW THEM IN TO PREVENT LEAKS.

Once you get the new fan/motor in place...fire the unit up and check for the smell.

Darken the room and use an small LED flashlight to go over every inch of the stove to search for leaks.

Look around the metal box in the rear where the passage that holds the fan bolts to the rear of the fire box.

Check the top of the fire box that is right under the trivet for cracks, a pinhole in a weld....anything that can be leaking.

There has to be a simple explanation for the leak....and an easy fix as well.

Another trick would be to turn the stove to draft fan only...no pellets feeding and toss a small colored smoke bomb in the fire pot and shut the door quickly.

Start looking for the colored smoke....

I kept assuming the smoke smell in here was from one of us opening the stove door to check the ash pan, or once in a while the smoke outside is by a door and someone went in and out of. Did not realize till smoke came out of (of all places!) my hopper!

Thank you all for sticking with me for 5 days on this! I am in wait mode now. New fan assembly should be here on Friday. I will report back once it is installed. Fingers crossed! You have all been amazingly supportive and helpful!
