The Aluminum adapter on the fan outlet looks to have been hacked up.

Look at the picture I posted of our stove...that is factory..

Get all the tape off the area around the connection to the stove.

Use a rag wet with alcohol and clean the entire area where the pipe connects to the adapter.

I looks like the original adapter had the round end cut off and some sort of a square piece fit to it.

Clean things up well and goop the joints with high temp black silicone.

Make sure any and all gaps are sealed well.

    Let the silicone cure.

My bet is the issue is at that joint.

I see the difference between your photo and mine. I have never replaced any parts in this or had any service other than 2 professional cleanings so I'm wondering if the manufacturer changed the design at some point. Mine has a sticker on it that says Whitfield Advantage II-T C Freestanding Rev. C. I agree that there is lots of room for leakage when you try to fit a square peg in a round hole! I will clean and silicone it really good today and try starting it up again tomorrow afternoon. Is it time for wine yet . . .

Did you buy the stove new/used...or was it in the house when you move in ???
The aluminum adapter had been the same for many years.

    Thanks

    Hi Robyn
Looks like we can see the exhaust leak right here. I would remove the flange, wire wheel it and reseal it. Then put in larger stronger Stainless Steel Screws. :)
I fix these all the time.
Just 2 weeks ago I did this to a profile 20. The flange was very loose and you could wiggle it back and forth easily!!!
If you move to Salem NH, then we can fix it for you. :)

As sort as the vent pipe is getting all the stuff loose may be a bit of a tussle.

Possibly cleaning the edge of the joint of the aluminum adapter right near the orang hose...removing all the old silicone and wiping the area with a rag soaked in alcohol to remove the dirt, smoke residue and any oils.

Apply a nice fillet of hi temp silicone around the area and call it good.

If the pipe is able to be slid out through the wall thimble then removing the aluminum adapter and completely cleaning and resealing would be best....

On the outlet side of the exhaust fan...a pinhole can leak a lot of smoke smell.

    Good luck Robyn

I cleaned and siliconed every joint I could find. See photos. I am not the neatest caulker, especially when I can barely see what I am doing but I'm pretty sure I covered all the joints inside and on the pipes! Smell started again in the back of the stove as soon as the combustion blower slowed down after the initial start so I shut it down. Thought about buying some smoke tubes with colored smoke to try to see where the leak is. What do you think?

I want you to try something.

Take the side off the stove.
When was the exhaust motor last oiled ????

    NO FIRE
PUSH THE START BUTTON and look at the little cooling fan on the inside of the exhaust blower motor.
That fan should be spinning along really good.
If the fan is going slow then there is an issue.

The fan should run at a steady speed all the time the stove is running AND NOT SLOW DOWN...at least not enough that you can hear it.

If the fan is sluggish add a a couple drops of 3 in 1 oil (Blue label) to the oil ports on the top of the exhaust fan (one near the outer end and one near the little bracket)

Your motor still shows the rubber plugs in them....likely not been out in a while.
THE ENTIRE PLUGS MUST COME OUT...LITTLE TOAD STOOL LOOKING THING WITH A STEM THAT GOES INTO THE HOLE...YANK OUT AND TOSS.

I tossed my plugs when we got the stove (Used) and oiled the bearings.

Be careful when you pry the plugs out to get the little stem out too.
If the stem breaks off you can drill the plugs out with a small drill bit.
2-3 drops of the 3 in 1 blue label every couple months in each hole.

Get this done...let the oil soak in for a few minutes and then try the unit.

My ADV2T would not even turn the fan when I bought it.

There is a hole in the plate the fan motor bolts to and the shaft goes through the hole.

    NO SEAL.
The low pressure created by the fan sucks air in around the shaft and NO SMOKE SMELL.

You have enough chimney that the draft keeps the fire going...but without the fan the smoke can leak into the room.

Give this a try and keep us in the loop.

    Here are the rubber plugs.

Sluggish exhaust fan and poor operation is a common issue with the original fan motors IF THEY ARE NOT OILED REGULARLY.

Oiled properly these motors run a loooooooooooong time.

Thats exactly what my my fan did, took the access cover off for a glimpse not once but twice, yep, it's spinning great, moved on to other trouble shooting. A few days later after fruitless other trouble shooting the Drolet tech helped me put in test mode and sit there and watch it for a few minutes and sure enough it stalled and then struggled to get going again. Thanks again don2222 for getting a new one MUCH faster then Drolet could.

Ok took the plugs out and lubticared them. We are finding it difficult to get the Ford started. We have to close the air off completely to get the pellets to burn enough to turn the auger in. Igniter not working obviously. One the pellets start burning we one the sir gate half way and start to smell the burning smell in the back of the stove. Fan seems to be running at a constant speed based in sound. I’m about ready to give up!!
