Got that one c/s/s. Decided to take down another across the drive from the pole barn when I got done in the woods. Double trunk Maple with one trunk leaning down the path, and the other with a lean down the drive and sort of toward the pole barn. Stage one done, but pics will come later. Ooops. The saw chain has been grabbing the last couple days, so I need to figure that out. Probably something to do with how I file.

Got most of the Maple limbed and about 1/2 bucked, and 1/2 of that stacked. Next up....sis-in-law's place for some dead/down Oak. I can do the popcorn guy in my own post, right?
I just checked the rakers a few days ago, but I've filed a few times since, so maybe but I doubt they're too low. A little sap on the top of the rakers, but not the cutters. Should the file be on a 10 deg. downslope when I file? I need a file guide.
Paaaaaaaallet Peeeeeeeete sharpens chains... even got my totally destroyed chains (by my local professional saw shop) to cut better than when they were new...
Thought I did this earlier, but I guess it was part of my naptime dream...... Anyway, here's the Maple I took down across from the pole barn. Most of the branches cleaned up and the biggest part of the trunk bucked up.
Had this weirdness going on in the tree. Mohawk Maple? Waiting for a surprise when I get it split. Aaand, here it is. I've been thinking about taking down this tree for a while,.....now I'm glad I did. Inside was soaked and ant infiltrated.
On the way back from retrieving the splitter out of the woods. Casper was keeping an eye on things for me. He HATES the saw. Hates it. Doesn't like it much either.
Yep, there was compost in there. I expect to find rot and ants in the crotch of a tree, but this one was strange. I'll try finishing up tomorrow with more pics of split and stacked wood. I guess sis-in-law's will have to wait another day or so. I plan to go hard on the Oak when possible, for '16-'17. The Maple and softwood for that winter can wait.
Papa, a spare chain or 2 is never a bad plan. Nothing is more frustrating at the time than hitting an hard object while cutting & not having one. This is especially true if cutting yard or fence row trees.
Stinny, most of the stuff I've been getting over there is no more than about 12" diameter, so fairly easy to cut and process. Most is dead/down and off the ground too, so already partially dry. I'm going to try using some that I got last fall that was dead to see how it burns. That will give me a better idea how hard I need to get after the Oak. I won't know that for another 2 months, but I'll go get started until then. Oliver, yep, thought about that too. Time to get another chain, so I can send this one to Pete when he's feeling better. It's cutting very well, and I've got the cutting circle thing fixed but that grabbing is wrong.
Got out and finished the branch cleanup, and got the rest of the tree s/s. Now, maybe I can make a trip or several to sis-in-law's for the Oak. That'll wait until tomorrrow....weather permitting.
First load......notice anything missing? Yeah, I forgot to hitch up the mule. Ended up using a lever (AKA, landscape timber), to lift the tongue onto the ball. One more small load and this stack was done.
