I'm thinking I'll notch the bottom and then do a plunge cut from the hinge back, it worked well on the last Sugar Maple I did. That's the plan unless I see something different once we get up there.
The soft maple here has a propensity to split or barber chair while cutting. It's either this soft maple or pine or ... buy wood.
