That would work now that I can see these pictures of it. I would cut a v-notch out of the bottom first then come down through from the top to finish the cut.
My plan was to start this today but I headed into town to pick some items up and when I got back we moved some chit out of the garage (still more to do) but I'll be up early tomorrow getting the 660 ready, I might need to sharpen a few longer chains. The area where this tree is should be dry even though we had plenty of rain the other night.
I finally got to this Sugar Maple, the plunge cut worked great but I should've cut from the bottom up some before I started my plunge cut, I still have some cutting to do on the stump end and on the downhill part, pic 9968. All of what I cut was rolled halfway down the hill towards my splitting area, I was very happy with the quality of wood, it's been down 3 or 4 years.
We have a nice branch from another Sugar Maple that came down, it's not that far down the same ridge.
That looks good Zap....I cooked a 20 lb ham in ginger ale then topped it with pineapple last 30 minutes. Wife made banana dessert and peanut butter pie, also had birthday cake for my 92 yo Dad. Happy Easter.
Exactly. And its probably going to pivot over your dirt mound, so watch your helmet, if you know what a mean. Edit, nevermind I just read alittle farther and saw you got it cut lol
The base of this Sugar Maple (pic 9966 in my post 24) has raised up off the grown about a foot, so tomorrow I'll get that taken care of before it pops straight up.
I cleaned the dirt off the bottom of the log and then cut 6 rounds off it, I think that I can get another two rounds off it but there still is some frozen dirt on the left side near the bottom. Once the snow is gone we'll get it down the hill to the splitting area.
I had to do a bit of hatchet work on the dirt bark of the stuff I was cutting the other day, PITA but it saves the chain
I took the 075 to this part of the Sugar Maple, the chain was going to need sharpening so I did this first, it felt nice to run a big saw again.
That will work, expecially with a saw that size. I had 2 saws out there with me the other day, one was brand new chain, one I just got done sharpening, so it was worth the effort to chip off the big clumps of dirt and bark.
If it's not raining that bad tomorrow, I'll get the rest of the Sugar Maple on the hill (pic 9968). I'll also grab the good downed Sugar Maple (pic 9970). Then it's getting the wood down the hill before the cold front comes in.
Boy you got a whole buncha stuff on the ground there. How do you get the stuff down the hill, buck it and roll it down?
