I've been searching a bit and have come across the 7910 kits, but have seen mixed reviews as far as performance and things fitting correctly. So I’m looking for a 7900 p/c or your guys input!!
Carl Miller at Miller Mod Saws. I can PM you his number if needed. Great guy to deal with. He got me mine.
Actually just re-read. I did the 7910 on mine. Should fit no issue...the kit comes with the cylinder and other top cover.
It’s ported as well...so it’s hard to tell I guess what it would have been like un ported. In hindsight...would have been interesting to port the 6400 as your about into it the same money wise depending on who does the port work.
I’ve got mine apart right now doing some cylinder and piston cleanup we shall see what comes of it. I’m noooo expert that’s for sure
Found OEM, but it's pricey. DOLMAR PS- 7910 & MAKITA EA 7900P, PISTON AND CYLINDER TOP END REBUILD KIT NEW OEM 038130071 I think I also saw a Hyway kit for $110 somewhere in my searching.
Just cleaned the casting overflow out of the windows here and then polished Intake side. There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of room with this p/c design so I just bumped the sides out a bit keeping the same shape as the original port. The cylinder side of the intake was originally a bit narrower than the carb side so now it’s straight through. The piston skirt only goes to the edge of the plating here so I left 1/8” either side of the port so as not to lose the seal to the transfers. The way it looked when I took it off Wish I had taken some pics of the exhaust port polished out. Got a bit excited and put it back together earlier. Stil need to tune it, but the blizzard going on right now here said otherwise
What are the differences between the 7910 and older 7900 p/c if any? I’ve read about muffler fitment troubles mainly ports not matching. My saw has the non cat muffler and I’ve already modded it. Dolmar 6400
Oops, did not see that the 7910 was in question. I have little Dolmar knowledge, but was trying to help. I had assumed the swap was to a 7900 cylinder. I now bow out and will let those who are knowledgeable of the subject continue.
That's pretty much the prices I saw for both the aftermarket and Dolmar kit. I don't see either as expensive. I do read about using a caber brand ringset though if you get the aftermarket one. Also, if you're going aftermarket, you might as well go big bore.
