Sounds like you have a great set up and will be spending a lot of time out there " firing up the boiler".

I just finished putting the wood in the basement last night, 3 cords, things usually start getting wet mid September around here, and our driest time of year is August- first week of September, so it is in now. We don't seem to have much of a bug problem.

I don't post many pics on the internet. I'm anti social media. I also don't share much with my coworkers as there is a lot of one upping each other in my work place.

You could call it a man cave, but it's so nice to have a place to go before going inside when you have been out working all day to get cleaned up. I plan on adding AC next year.

I used to only bring enough in to keep the fire going. Had one of these cool wood boxes that probably kept about a week supply of wood or so. No real need to bring wood in the place unless it was kinda rain wet but even then it really wasn’t so bad. Spiders mostly hang out in our wood, or termites and pill bugs. Other than that, not a big deal. Next time burning will likely be in a wood or laminate floor, the clean up is drastically easier. Especially if you have 4 legged home owners! 04ED822A-9019-49DD-AF64-49E4515B3E3A.jpeg 0AAA15F7-0070-46AF-8F89-D21AD0F9E8D4.jpeg

Right now I have around 20 cords of wood ready to go. I have about 12 cords of logs that need to be cut split and stacked that got dropped off this morning. I asked for everything under 18", but I got a few 24"+ logs in the mix.

I have no idea how much were going to burn a year, but thinking it will be around 5 to 7 cords.

5-7 is a norm for you? How much house space are you heating?

This is my first year heating with wood in this house. I have not heated with wood in years.

I'm heating 1,300 house to 73*, 600 of basement at 65*, and 800 of boiler room/ wood storage/ garage about 65*. The house uses a heat ex-changer and the rest is radiant.

    I have a Garn 1000 boiler.

I'm thinking... I'll burn 100 to 120lbs of wood between 100 and 150 times in the heating session. Add in a fudge factor and I'm at 7 cords. With 1000 gallons of storage I should not need 150 fires.

    Any guesses?

plenty of help here, they may even steer you towards the Boiler section of this forum so you can work on tweaking your system. Seems like there should be something to do about it. I’m not a boiler guy but at least you’re in the right place to get this answered.

The Garn 1000 is more or less a gasifier in side a huge tank with 20' of flu with a 1/2 blower in a 1000 gallons of water.

This is why I built a wood drying / storage room. I decided for today's work out to move and stack about 3.5 cords into the room leaving room for air circulation. I still have 1 row to stack in there next time I have a day off.

I would love to fire it up and heat the room to drive out more water, but don't think I will till the shoulder session.

5-7 cord does seem like a lot for your location. I hope you get happily surprised and burn much less.

btw, we usually burn around 3 cord here in MI but we also are blessed with a small house and a wonderful stove.

I was perusing the net this morning and saw a youtube video on the Navajo Stove,(cleaning and set up for the cold) then scrolled down a bit and saw the Zero Emissions stove for Woodstock at a show in 2017, then you and your wife were all of a sudden in the picture!

We had our house built in 2017. We planned for a boiler from day 1. Most of the land I got from my dad was set up in Silvopasture. He still runs cows on the property. There are tons of saw logs on the property and some firewood trees, but I don't have time to cut my own firewood right now. Last year I planted 4 acres of firewood trees, but that's years down the road till there ready.

Were still trying to settle in and decide more on what we want to do and If i want to give up on my manager job.
