Tigers are great! I had a nice 30 gallon setup for years and I ran out of time and ambition to keep it pristine. When my last Bala shark expired after I forget how many years, I called it quits.

Exactly bogieb , that sux, but you are a good man to get the job done.

Speaking of which, since it's timely with your post, here's a joke...

Why are all of our jobs like Christmas?

Because at the end of the day, the fat guy gets ALL the credit.

    Nice work Gasifier

    How many gallons is that?

One of these days I need to get my smaller 40 g tank set up for my tank raised clownfish that my buddy raised.

They're all lonely downstairs in a huge tank that nobody sees.

That one is a 55 gallon. I also have a 30 gallon. They were both down cellar and being neglected. Out of sight out of mind I guess. So I decided it was time for them both to come up to the main floor where we will see them all the time. This will lead to me keeping them clean and all of us will be able to enjoy them more. They are a very nice nightlight and a really nice addition to the furniture in both rooms!

They use to be up here years ago and we decided to move them down cellar and try them down there. Don't temember why. LOL (C.R.S.?)

Mine I had ideas about the basement bar that was in the house when we bought it, and I cut out the wall to make a custom 200 gallon epoxy/ plywood reef tank with the front panel being glass. It was a fun project, but I don't hang out in the basement enough.

In its prime it was amazing. Copy of P1010100.JPG

I use Aquaclear filters. They are a hang on the back, three stage filter that are extremely reliable and quiet. On the 55 gallon I have the Aquaclear 500 which is now called a 120. And on the 30 gallon I have an Aquaclear 70 that use to be called the 300.

The 500 and 300 pump that amount of gallons of water per hour. Both a little overkill, but you can adjust the flow up and down a little if you don't need max. And they have smaller and larger sizes.

I ran the same filters for a long time too Gas. Then someone convinced me to spend the $$ on a canister setup. Best. Thing. Ever! Oversized for my tank for sure but the filter needed attention on maybe a monthly basis if the tank was at capacity and used much cheaper bulk media rather than the little filter panels that were getting pricey.

Even better than that and less work (less cost down the road after initial costs, but all can be done DIY) is a sump with a refugium on a reverse light cycle from the display tank. You need an overflow, and a little more room, but it really simplifies the setup. These can work with salt or fresh, and even brackish setups.

    Lol. English please?

Now that I remember, I know what you're talking about. I was already at like 200% overkill in my 30 gal freshwater tank and extra room is hard to come by around here

I'll get into it again one day. Maybe. My wife prob has an opinion on that tho.

I rinse my filters out , one stage at a time, when they start to get pretty choked, and they last way longer than they suggest changes need to be made.

Yup. I was doing that too. I'd also rotate the 1st row to the 2nd after awhile. I ran an undergravel for awhile too, it really did great until it was time to clean out all the schmoo that builds up underneath the filter grate. NASTY.

I have not run an under gravel filter in at least 25 years. I don't find I need them with today's good filters. I use a large siphon, not very often, just occasionally, and clean the gravel a bit. But try not to change too much water. Maybe 15-20%.

The funny thing is that was fairly early on in the tanks life. It was even more impressive about a year later.
