I've been a saltwater fish tank guy so long, biowheels were brand new when I got out of freshwater fish.

I know biowheels don't work well on saltwater reef tanks, but they were not designed for that.

No bio-wheel here, just a basic Tetra whisper cartridge filter. Its only a little 10 gallon tank for the kids, cheap easy to keep fish so far - neon tetras, guppies, etc.

I'm looking into an another aquarium. I'd like to go old school with undergravels that I had great success with before, but wow prices have gone up!

The average high for tomorow is 47. The forecast high is 9. NOT FAIR.

I'm not a fan of under gravel filters personally.

How about an algal turf scrubber or refugium instead?

Well last night we watched John Wick and tonight we watched Maze Runner. The second one was better.

Quite the list. Mine started with getting out of bed, reloading the stove, stove again at 9, then to bed again. Top that!

I don't get around that great anymore, what do you think is the easiest to care for? Is the above you listed like the bioballs in a sump? Also, I will be going fresh this time.

You like maze runner better than john wick? I know, 2 completely different movies. One's more suited to kids, but man. Never mess with a mans dog or car.

I'll have to send you some links, but ease of upkeep, a turf scrubber / refugium is by far the least amount of work to upkeep. Bioballs can be part of that, especially on a freshwater tank. It basically eliminates algae from your tank by eating all the phosphate and nitrates before it gets to the display tank. Especially if you run it on a reverse photo period.

    I'd appreciate that :)

Turf scrubber? Could that have been called the scum collector years ago?

Not sure on the refugium.... My last one was down low (lots of kneeling and getting up and down) , keeping track of the bulk head, and I still hydrocleaned here and there. Do you find it easier to care for than undergravel? I was just so automated in the past I can't differentiate now.

A turf scrubber is use of algae to use up the fish waste to feed algae on a plastic waterfall essentialially. It can be above or below the tank, lit by natural night, or electric light. There's ones that are in tank as well.

All I have are Aquaclear filters in my tanks. I've been slacking off on them lately though. I need to take one of them down and move it to my son's room for him. And get some fish for it. Right now I am down to one 55 gallon tank with guppies, a couple Chinese algae eaters, and a catfish.

Yes I hear it here a lot azz well. I hear it from the North (must be when Rotti steps outside to "let Bear out"), and from the South (must be when thewoodlands steps outside to "check the Radio shack special.") Lots of low rumbling thunder. Sometimes I struggle to see the clouds though.?

I would have to say that when you look north, remember Loon is strategically located about half way between us, so you do the math...............................

Good morning, 5 degrees with bright sunshine. About 5 inches of snow fell last Friday evening/night, having worked Sat & Sun. 7:30am to 8pm the snow is still out there and the plow trucks have left me some pretty impressive berms to deal with...I rectum it won't won't be long and I'll be out there trying to move it all out of my way. I gotta' refrigerator full of 3 different flavors of cold frosties, Kentucky Bourbon in the freezer and a fire in the garage wood stove,,should I need it later this afternoon,,
You folks have a good day and be safe out there in the cold. Peace.
