X2, we used to be the house that gave out the king size bars but the older kids got to be a pain taking several at a time. Stopped giving out a few years ago as the number of kids got lower. Did not notice any last night.

Yeah, filter for contaminants and purify for biologicals. I have a million flashlights / LED lights and batteries for them (and they are kept charged). Hey, when it gets dark, just go to bed.

The rooftop solar is useless during a grid outage since it is grid tied. The utility requires an automatic shutoff when a certain amount of volts aren't produced from the grid for lineman safety. But, I have stand alone panels and battery stations that can be charged by solar. Plus, a couple of other ways to charge the battery stations if needed.

A couple years back (looks like 4 or more) I got real interested in getting a solar system here.

Figured out the options of connected to grid and completely off grid which has the battery backup.

At that time, over $60 K would be needed for battery backup system. Pay once and done! (well, probably for about 20 years maybe)

I also asked how long would the batteries take care of the needs of my house?

"About a day........longer if you gauge your usage."

So, $60,000 gets me through 2-3 of days with power?

    "Yup. About that." :picard:

A whole house generator for less than $10 K on standby makes a lot more sense to me. :handshake:

Quite a finish to that game!

We only watched the finish but it sure was nice not to see the camera switch over to taylor. I guess they finally figured it out!

I have to admit something about that.

I was planning to get the generator this year and have it ready before winter storms.

Instead, I went with the sunroom addition. It is enjoyed more than we anticipated.

I asked 99 if she will still feel the same way about the sunroom if we have another thanksgiving storm...without power for 3 days!

She said we'll just sit in the sunroom and look outside.

I asked about a battery in 2022 when I had my solar system installed, and it literally would have driven the cost of the system up by 146% (yes, that's right, the battery for my paltry usage would have cost more than the solar system + install itself). Oh, and with that I would have had to build a fire-retardant room. No thank you.

Since then, battery costs have come way down. Plus, "portable" batteries are fairly inexpensive and can be obtained as funds allowed - and don't require a special room.

Taking the truck for an oil change this morning. For 8 quarts of full synthetic, it should be around $85.....?? I hope.

Normally, I will perform them myself. But, the last two times I did the truck, I ended up with a mess on the concrete pad! :headbang:

I believe age is at play there......

Finding truthful reviews for products seems to be becoming a thing if the past. Either the review is part of a promotion or it's some special program where customers got the product for free as long as they leave a review. Last product I looked at, well over half were paid reviews. Fake world.

Put a slab of cured pork belly on the smoker this AM. Should have bacon by lunchtime.
