Question for you. I have several good but old heavier work shirts where the collar is frayed. Didn’t people used to remove the collar and “turn” them to get more mileage out of them? Seem to recall my mother doing this. Thanks!

Focus, man! All joking aside, I can see what you're talking about if I take a quick glance.

Yes, you can do and it does make a difference on how long a shirt will last. I have done several of campinspecter's collars and cuffs on not just work shirts but also dress shirts as you usually don't see the underside of the collars. When the only wear is the collar and everything else looks okay, it is a shame to throw out the shirt.

Starting to feel like a "real" winter. Spent several hours yesterday cleaning up after the overnight snow storm. It wasn't the light, powdery stuff we've been getting since the ice storms of late December and early January. Getting ready for the Nor'Easter that will hit tonight thru tomorrow. Guestimates are all over the place. Boston stations saying my area will get 3-6", local station saying 4-8", and New England Weather Guy saying 8-12" with 30-40 mph gusts (he does not get hyped up normally). Now, a foot of snow is not a huge deal, but the snow banks near the garage are tall enough that the snow blower is challenged to get over them. Hopefully the line doesn't shift further north (I do feel sorry for those more southerly that will get hammered).

I was standing on the snow bank to the right yesterday trying to roof rake more towards the ridge. Still have a bunch of snow from mid January up there (powder just does not dump like wetter snows does)

This is as far as I can reach with a 24' roof rake since it is a fairly flat roof. Picture of the east side was taken standing on the snow bank and arms up above my head. The picture is deceiving because the solar panels are 4-5' back from the eave instead of at the edge (to emerge from the tree shade earlier in the day). The other 3 sides are much better, with the S & N sides just having what fell yesterday on them (what didn't dump yesterday afternoon).

We're supposed to get hammered with snow today and into tomorrow. My area is supposed to get 18-24" of snow with 50mph wind gust. This past week had the snow from the ice storm a few weeks back finally melt. I dont think today's snow is going to last as long on the ground though since the temps later this week are in the upper 40's and reaching mid-50s by the weekend. That last snowstorm cost me a chance at seeing a 140 year old shipwreck. The storm uncovered it and by the time the snow and ice melted enough to reach it the ocean covered it back up. I was so bummed I didnt get a chance to take pictures.

People have been after me to get rid of my old insulated shirt. Best darned shirt I ever had, however, after wearing is a couple days ago, I just may have to give it up. I don't remember how old it is but I may have bought that back in the late 80's. I think I wore it hunting for a couple years.

Guess that I’ll need to source a seamstress, if there’s any left that know how to do these things! If I find one I’ll let you know

Yes, my wife was pretty talented with these kind of skills too.Used to spin yarn, crochet, weave, knit and lots of other things. Her dementia is developing and those tasks are no longer doable for her. It’s awfully sad to watch:(

We might have gotten slightly more than forecasted yesterday, but looks like the guessers really undershot their mark in town. They got walloped, and weren't finished cleaning up the last storm yet.

This year might end up rivaling 2020, when we got a state of emergency storm which we'd last seen the likes of in 1978. And after a record breaking summer and fire season last year, I'm honestly glad to see snow for the first time. Groundwater levels should hold up through summer a lot better this year.
