While I believe my 90# (purebred Western German lines) GSD would have no issues with a lone coyote, I have no desire to find out. For the last sixteen years of living in the middle of the woods I have been in the habit of checking outside first before letting any of the GSDs I've had off the deck. While this has been more due to the prevalence of black bears, it also plays into not wanting an altercation with bobcats, fisher cats, skunks, raccoons, moose, and so on (especially with fox and raccoons and the potential for rabies). All my GSDs have been trained very well on recall, but that only goes so far with their natural instinct to chase. Although none of my dogs have ever had an altercation with an animal, an ounce of prevention is just the smart thing to do. I've seen some of the comments you mention on similar postings of the coyote warning, and the sheer naivete of so many just makes you shake your head.

As long as someone is around to load the stove a little more, you'll actually get more heat to the house with that Boxelder...if you push the stove at all that locust will just fill it up with coals while the house is cooling as you wait until you can actually load next.

My wife’s GSD female 80-85 pounds killed no less than 6 foxes on property, chased bear up tree and attacked and chased away 205# monster dog etc

Most were “you to close to my person so you move or I’ll move ya” scenarios. When my daughter was 12 2 foxes with mange; in March were using drive to get out of 3-4 foot snow. Liz was getting off school bus same time. Lady lost her mind; chased them away from Liz they went in garage and hid.. Her mommies bay.. yeah..

All foxes on property were then terminated. By her

I believe GSD have a “person” and they think can’t get into shepherd heaven unless they die protecting them. They are going to be ready.
Miss that dog. But not headaches from her mouth

Yes. Overnight, is where I want the locust. During the day, my wife has no issues reloading the stove as long as I did my part and have the splits 17-18" max.

I get to go shopping this evening. A couple days before a snow storm should make it completely miserable.

Shopping didn't not disappoint on the awfulness scale . 9.5/10 would not do it again.

We are fueled up and stocked up. Let it snow.

The transfer station doesn't just close for any weather - granted, it is only open 4 days a week, but still, the projected windchills are between -20 and -45. I had already decided it would be smart to move my dump run today instead of tomorrow (my usual day). The staff that also runs road equipment will be nicely rested for the snow that will hit Sunday - Monday.

I've gone from drinking coffee every day for 20+ years to about 1 or 2 days a week. The coffee is tasting extra good this morning.

Pretty nice morning here. Other than cold. I guess this is the calm before the storm this weekend
