Our AC went down yesterday evening. I think it is just a capacitor in the condenser, but it's under warranty and I'm going to let the service tech handle it. Hopefully he gets here quick...heat index is supposed to be 110+ today.

I was just gonna reply that if they dont show up today I'd grab a spare tomorrow so that you don't potentially get stuck over the weekend without AC...

After thinking on it a little more, I'm just going to buy a spare now so I don't have to go overnight / over weekend the next time this happens. I'll let a $10 part sit on the shelf for that...cheap insurance.

Buy it and not need it or don’t and regret it…
    $10 is an easy choice

Sorry I don’t know about the OT Fed payroll taxes, but I think it’s unlikely that states who also have income tax will eliminate theirs.

Yeah don't go too crazy with spares, they age on the parts shelf as well.

Great to hear it was just that. I've had to replace a capacitor a time it two on my HVAC as well. I'm thinking it's time for new AC and furnace on the next few months. Probably lump it in with the detached garage heloc project

I'm torn on the new HVAC stuff... efficiency is better, but overall quality is crap...just like modern appliances.

I hear you. The thing is our HVAC, outside of the smart thermostat, a control box for the furnace, vand a couple of capacitors, is from the early 90's. It's been a good run, but I fear the days are numbered. There's pretty much no way a new furnace and AC will last 30+ years like these have, but at some point they'll go and I don't want it on their time. Especially the air conditioner. Heat, I have that covered a few days, or months if it's not too ridiculously cold.

Too much brain activity dedicated to air conditioning today. The house couldn't get to the set point today....dang coil iced up on me. First time ever. Good to go now.

I think I scored a good deal on a window AC unit for the shop tonight. We'll see ..FBM is a real cesspool these days and you never know how things will work out.

Our son's house wasn't cooling properly, the guy put in a used 4 ton heat pump unit, company checked it, low on freon. Still had problems, so the guy that sold him the house got him a new 5 ton unit at cost and paid for install...house is still only cooling to 79-81°...
They had to add an additional return line for the 4 ton unit, it has 2 - 14x20 size returns...I looked at paperwork on 5 ton unit...looks like it needs 2 - 20x20 returns...
Reckon that could be the problem?
