I'm tired of humidity...fall can't get here fast enough.

Today's morning project was putting together some picnic tables. I've built several in the past but the el cheapo kits from Menards never seem to make it more than a couple years before they are trash. I decided to buy once, cry once this time around. I looked at some of the poly models but they are absurdly priced. Since these are going to be under roof on the porch I bought some commercial quality metal legs and some SYP 2x10's that I stained.

I got the boards from the Amish lumber yard. I'll never buy lumber from Menard's again. I would have had to sort through two bunks of wood to get boards that were as nice as the 5 on the top of the stack at the Amish place. Just as cheap too. I hate to think how many hours of my life I have wasted picking through lumber when I could have just gone to this place.

I have pretty good luck finding decent lumber at our local Menards...still hafta sort a little, but WAAAY better than bLowes or HD!
But the worst I've seen lately was last year at the local private owned lumber yard (Amish/Mennonite) I had to sort through 1/2 bunk of 2x12's to get 3 decent 12 footers! There was all kinds of live edge showing, deep saw marks, bug holes/rot, etc...disappointed for sure...wasn't cheap either!

Well, we are on the other end of the spectrum but I’ll be happy to not have to pay taxes on Social Security which as a business owner(s) we paid in both the employee and the employer portion for many, many years! Just thankful that we don’t have to rely on just SS in retirement:thumbs:
