First rainy day we've had in a long time. I almost forgot what it feels like to have one. I was hoping it would clear out by this evening so I can go hunting this evening, but it looks like that when the heaviest rain is going to hit. Finished helping my BIL patch up his rust bucket boiler last night. I'm not sure if it will hold but hopefully it will and he can get another season or two out of it.
Lots of color showing up in our trees as well. 57 degrees and that will be the high tomorrow. I think fall is upon us.
We've been misty & some rains, dark and in the 50/60's for several days, today was some impovement. In the 70's the next few days so you can look forward to that coming your way too
It's been a while, but the replacement for my porch, and changing the ramp to stairs is almost done. Course it is supposed to rain for several days and they have another job so it may be a bit. That's okay. Now just have to wait a year before I can stain the wood a darkish blue to finish the look. They just need a couple of hours to finish the railing caps. Will save a piece in case I want to install below that first step - haven't decided yet whether I want that or not. Have to do some path work before I really make up my mind.
Deer jerky this AM. Nesco dehydrator. I cut up my last deer leg in the freezer. I'm going to need to get a deer soon. Grabbed a tarp yesterday and this fell out. Nice snake skin. Ill probably give it to my nephew. I was adjusting the sheet metal on my stacks because rain was expected. Doh. Restacked some of it brought the rest up to the house. Pig nut hickory from 2019, this wood is bone dry and will be hot burning .
Well, yeah, that was the original porch. When I bought the house 10 years ago it had a very short landing and 30' of ramp. This is what was there before In practical terms, once all is said and done, basically the outcome was as if I had made the two sections of ramp just to the right of the door level, then removed the rest of the ramp and put on stairs (in fact, I did ask about doing exactly that to save on material costs). But now it is new materials and all is level so no longer directing rain and snow to the house. The ramp support posts weren't on concrete pillons, so over the years have moved around. The shadows and angle of the picture make it so you really can't tell there was an existing roof overhang over the porch and upper few feet of the ramp. We added a bit to that. Since we were putting up a support structure for the new portion of the overhang, I had them extend it to the existing structure so it at least looks all tied in.
That was one of my requirements as I look at making things easier as I get older. Shoveling snow every hour from the dumpage off the roof , and pounding off ice from snow meltage are not things I want to be doing for the rest of my life.
Began a little floor painting in the basement yesterday. We laid laminate on 1/2 the basement floor the first year we were here. The remaining half was comprised of storage, firewood bin and mechanical room. It'll look a lot better than just the treated concrete. "Haze gray and underway!"
I painted part of the basement floor with epoxy garage floor paint, you know, the stuff with the color flakes that get sprinkled onto the wet paint ..one of these days I'll get the old basement garage turned into a family room and the rest of it painted too...it's held up perfectly! The prep sux though...
Been hot here this week...close to 80, woke up to 44 this morning though! Might hafta fire the lil fireplace stove in the LR in the next day or 2 with these temps! Seems about right...my average starting of the Kuuma burning is somehweres between Oct 15 and Nov 1
Had to come in from hunting as I just cracked my excalibur crossbow limb. Blah. At least it didn't shatter in my face. Also saw this bald faced hornets nest on a walk. Its about the size of a basketball.
Did some garden cleanup, mowed the yard, changed plugs on the truck, air filters in the truck and van, worked in BILs boiler, went to mass, cooked dinner, got the kids to bed, and finally sat down for the day. Going hunting in the AM.
