Interesting situation, signed kiddo up for a "speed reading" course this summer, turns out it's more of a reading course. Anyway she is engrossed in the first book assigned and has read way ahead of the scheduled assignments. I'm not going to tell her to put the book down to stay on course with the class, you know? We'll see if the instructor has an issue with it (regarding the 1 hour online weekly class) for chapters she blew through already.
I’m sitting in St. George SC doing a 34-hour reset. Still trying to beat this cough/ upper respiratory infection that’s been kicking my azz for a week now. been from Minneapolis to York PA to Fargo ND to Baltimore MD and now to St. George SC since I left 10 days ago. lot of history to think about rolling down I95 on the coast.
For my tools I use fine steel wool. You could probably use a rag or foam brush too. I keep saturating till it’s done sinking in and leave it on heavy, then come back in about 1/2 hour and wipe any excess off with a cloth rag. Regular maintenance like this makes any wood handle last a lifetime. I take care of these tools because they just don’t make em like they used to.

Do you ever get any "AT HOME" time? Seems to me you are always on the road. I don't know how you do it.
I am home for 10-14 day periods and gone 16-19 days. I’ll be gone extra this month to accommodate the Memorial Day and July 4th holidays. Some of it depends on times of the year. I’ll be off a lot in July and august for work to get done on the truck that’s scheduled. I’ll finish up the tree work and splitting then.
I would let her keep reading. If the teacher fusses, find out what the list of books the course is going to use and borrow them from the library and let her read them at her own pace. I always had all my English books read as soon as they were given to us. Just before the class, have her reread the chapters that are going to be discussed.
Morning folks. Gotta do the carpenter thing for 8 hours then stop and cut mow my wife's uncle's yard. Her cousin used to do it but he passed away a few months ago and i inherited the job. Stay safe out there.
Caffeine going in. Looks like the weather will be great today and tomorrow. High of 76 with mostly sun. Good for tractor work on my days off. I have some stumps to pull, wind blown downed trees to process into firewood, and trails to mow. The Kubota L45 is going to get some hours put on it. I just had the hydraulic thumb fixed, engine oil and filter changed, hydraulic oil and filter changed, and an entire grease job completed. Good feeling to have all that done.
Thanks WW, I did let her keep going, she finished it. This is a 6 week paid service with online classes, so both books are already delivered... So this weeks online and next weeks online she'll attend with all the reading done, like you did (I'll have to see if I can get her to reread the chapters, pick your battles type deal). There's online homework too, like vocabulary, comprehension and quizzes, and she did all that too. I thought there was some secret training for speed reading but it seems to be practice, am I right? If so, no need to spend the $$ for another course next summer, we can take a trip to town to check books out from the library.
So nice to hear she loves to read. I see so many kids in school now that reading is considered a chore and texting has mangled their spelling and words to be incomprehensible. Reading really expands their vocabulary as well. I was fortunate that both our girls learned to read very well and they both still enjoy reading for recreation.
Reading was an ugly chore for her till that once in a lifetime teacher came along in 4th grade. They clicked/bonded, and lady worked her magic on kiddo, I'm forever grateful. Especially after seeing her slide with the 2nd/3rd grade teacher, and 5th grade homeroom teacher. God Bless our teachers, it's a gift that many parents including I do not have.
