What's up today (bullchiting) thread.

Every other year about this time I make the call to get our propane tank filled up. We don't use hardly any anymore thanks to the OWB, but I still like to have it pretty full just in case. This seems to be the best time to buy (before they start running grain dryers) price-wise but it sure didn't feel like that today. $2.49/gallon on 200 gallon minimum. Ouch.

 

That's cheap lukem I have a delivery coming on Friday and I was quoted a price of $4.21/G. I use it mainly for cooking and the tank I have is small, maybe 120 gallon size. I have heard it called a 'pug'.

 

Last time I bought propane it was $1.79/gal.

 

That is a double ouch.

 

You might want to check with your propane supplier if they have an early buy or pre buy programs ( might be better names for these) I pre buy in about June 500 gal tank ( never use that much) they fill it later in the year (Sept-Oct) but my price is locked in. If the market has risen I get my locked price, if it goes lower (ha ha) then i get the lower price. Several years ago propane prices around my state went crazy high- if you could even get any. There were $7-8 /gal prices at the time that I remember reading about ( might even have gotten higher)

 

A group buy this early summer was priced at 1.79 but had to have a 250 gal minimum.

I haven't used much since early summer of 21 when the price was .89 200 gal minimum.

Price of heating oil went up $.20 since yesterday. Ive been holding off. It’s going to be an expensive winter even with burning wood.

 

Just purchased 150 gallons $720. Ouch!

I remember filling the tanks here back in, oh I'd guess it was the late 90's/early 2000's, and it had dropped to $0.69/gall
A few years later (2008?) and it was up to $2.50 or so...started burning wood and haven't bought any since.
I saw the oil man some years later when he was delivering gasoline to my parents business and told him I was heating with wood now and he said "yeah I assumed that...saw your stacks"

 

Yes, definitely don't wait until it's really cold, because they simply can't get more when it's really cold out, so they jack the prices. I remember that, but we got our LP tank up north filled in Fall, so no biggie for us.

 

Yeah, I was watching the price of HHO slowly trend down in July and first part of August . Got down to $3.89 and was going to top off my tank and my mom's but end of last week and over the weekend the price jumped right back up to $4.12.
Both of our tanks are sitting at about 1/2 and Summer is usually the lowest price.

Ouch, indeed. Makes me and the wife consider moving to a warmer climate. It’s getting harder for me to scrounge wood, split and stack it. Getting older and health issues changes things. The worst part is, I don't like hot weather. Guess we're kind of stuck for now.

 

Ooh, those are hellacious storms you are expecting. Why do they bother - usually they just say "trace" around here instead of those ridiculously low numbers.

 

Back in March I paid $632 for 119 gallons - looks like prices have gone down by about 50 cents. Just checked my supplier and they are showing $4.30/gal. Dang, that is $1.00 cheaper than I paid back then.

 

I would have to check the receipt, but I believe the last time I bought 150 gallons (minimum) it was around $890. That was very unfortunate. We needed it for hot water and it was probably at its highest price ever.
